The Sr. Manager, Capital Investment reports directly to the Potash Sr. Director of Capital and Major Projects and is responsible for consolidated capital budgeting, reporting and analysis including the foundational systems, tools and processes for ensuring quality and accuracy. The data and reports are prepared for use in strategic decision making and capital governance across the Potash Business Unit to ensure the Potash Capital Portfolio achieves its expected business value.

The capital portfolio includes 7 active mining operations consisting of approximately 800 projects and budget in excess of $1B. This role is required to develop a detailed understanding of the strategic position of each mine within the network to support network-wide trade off analysis and decision making.

This role will also be required to provide analysis for capital projects including sensitivity models, risk evaluation, assumption validation, and completing economic and financial models and is a meaningful contributor to the results of the capital portfolio within the Potash Business Unit. In addition, a strong business development aptitude with the ability to articulate the value of projects within the Potash portfolio will be required. This position will provide guidance and expertise while building relationships with the site Accounting, Finance and Project teams. Strong communication skills are necessary, as this role will be required to interact and provide the necessary information for decision making to all levels within Nutrien.

The Sr. Analyst, Capital Projects reports to this position.

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

  • Responsible for consolidated capital budgeting, reporting and analysis including the foundational systems, tools and processes for ensuring quality and accuracy of a $1B portfolio
  • Oversee prioritization of capital projects to achieve goals and objectives aligned with business strategy through the Project Value Index (PVI) process for investment projects across the Potash Business Unit
  • Ensure standardization of Nutrien\'s Capital Prioritization Processes, using judgment and significant experience in routine and unique situations for projects and initiatives across all potash sites and within the Potash Engineering, Technology, and Capital department (ETC)
  • Responsible for the creation of capital project reports, communications, and presentations for review by Senior Leadership, Nutrient President(s), the Executive Leadership Team, and the Nutrien CEO
  • Prepare consolidated project slides for the Potash Business Unit for the annual capital presentation to the Board
  • Work autonomously and generally facilitate resolution of unusual or difficult situations without detailed supervision
  • Responsible for generation of monthly capital portfolio reports
  • Provide support for the standardization and continuous improvement of the Capital Processes across all nutrients (NPK and T&D)
  • Support the Sr. Director of Capital and Major Projects and Potash Finance in the creation and achievement of long- and short-term Strategic Objectives
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators to ensure success
  • Engage, motivate, and inspire the Site Project Teams to embrace change and support the continuous improvement of the Corporation\'s capital strategies and aligned project management procedures to ensure project success
  • Provide support for Government Incentive Programs
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution
  • CPA or CFA is a requirement
  • Demonstrated track record of 10+ years of related experience in Mining, Mineral Processing, or similar Industrial companies, with additional experience considered an asset
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Designation considered an asset
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Experience creating complex financial models considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Oracle or SAP considered an asset
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Ability to lead/coach people to maintain the highest levels of expertise and performance
  • High level of motivation
  • Ability to work successfully in an environment with minimal supervision and a high degree of interaction between management, teams, and team members
