JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Locating Division Manager, the
Senior Locator
is responsible for accurately identifying, marking, and documenting buried facilities including electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, and communication infrastructure.
This role combines strong technical expertise with leadership, providing mentorship and guidance to junior locators in the field while ensuring all work is completed accurately and in full compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety standards.
This position is primarily based in
Calgary and surrounding areas
and involves working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use EM/RF locators, maps, blueprints, and databases to identify and document underground utility locations.
Accurately mark and record buried utilities and complete detailed field sketches and notes.
Interpret and analyze site plans, area maps, and drawings to determine the location of underground facilities, including high-voltage electrical cables, water, sewer, gas, telephone, fiber optic, and other communication lines.
Mentor, support, and provide on-the-job guidance to junior locators.
Maintain locating equipment in clean, safe, and working condition.
Complete daily safety documentation and actively participate in safety meetings and training.
Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly while adhering to all driving and site safety requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum
5+ years of underground utility locating experience
.
UALL / TALL / PALL and Locating 101 certifications are considered an asset.
Valid
Class 5 Driver's License
with a clean
5-year driver's abstract
.
Strong ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and blueprints.
Safety certifications such as
CSTS, OSSA/BSO, First Aid, H2S Alive, and Ground Disturbance Level 2
are required or considered an asset.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and computer skills.
High attention to detail with a strong safety-first mindset.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in changing outdoor conditions.
Candidates must be
eligible to permanently work in Canada
, or presently have the required approvals to work permanently in Canada.

This role requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and candidates must be physically capable of performing field-based work.
