JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Locating Division Manager, the Senior Locator is responsible for accurately identifying and documenting buried facilities such as electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, and communication lines.
This role combines technical expertise with mentorship, guiding junior locators in the field, while ensuring work is performed with precision and in full compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety standards.
You'll primarily be working in Calgary and surrounding areas , operating in diverse outdoor conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpret and analyze site plans, maps, and blueprints to determine underground utility locations.
Use EM/RF locators, maps, blueprints, and databases to identify and document conduit locations.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior locators.
Mark and record buried utility locations with precision and complete accurate field sketches and notes.
Maintain locating equipment in clean, working condition.
Complete daily safety documentation and actively participate in safety meetings and training.
Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
5+ years of underground utility locating experience.
Advanced Utility Locating Certification (PAL, CAPULC, or equivalent) -- asset.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean 5-year abstract.
Skilled in reading/understanding maps, drawings, and blueprints.
Experience with EM/RF locating equipment; knowledge of Trimble GPS and Total Station is an asset.
Safety certifications (CSTS, OSSA/BSO, First Aid, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance).
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and computer skills.
High attention to detail, with a safety-first mindset.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in various weather conditions.
WORK CONDITIONS
The position requires an individual who is comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and who is physically fit.
Candidates applying for this position must be eligible to permanently work in Canada or presently have the required approvals to work permanently in Canada.
