Air Products core industrial gas business provides atmospheric and process gases serving a variety of customers in 50+ countries, including refining, chemical, gasification, metals, electronics, manufacturing, food and beverage, welding, and healthcare.

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases has an immediate opening for a Sr. Indigenous Relations Manager. This will be based at our new Sherwood Park office, east of Edmonton. Relocation benefits will be offered to qualified candidates.

Reporting to the Canada Subregion Vice President, this individual will play a pivotal role in our organization\'s dedication to building strong, lasting partnerships with Indigenous communities.
This position will contribute to the success of our Canada growth strategy by improving key community-company relationships in our existing operating areas, as well as our growth initiatives. The goal is to build long-term, positive relationships with Indigenous leaders and local businesses. This individual will be the first point of contact for any guidance and emerging issues needed for the communities and provide leadership to the organization through strengthening awareness of Indigenous culture, developing and leading key Indigenous relationships, and managing emerging issues, as well as supporting the successful delivery and implementation of Indigenous Relations strategic community and project procurement plans.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Build positive partnerships and collaborate with community leaders that include First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis, various Indigenous groups, municipalities and local community-led organizations and enterprises.
  • Work closely with project directors and procurement teams to progress economic reconciliation through bid input, review weighting, evaluation, contract review and awarding processes.
  • Negotiate and lead contracts with community-led organizations for mutual benefit to Air Products operations and the surrounding communities\' economic development.
  • Represent Air Products at community meetings, open houses, and trade shows in a confident and professional manner, seeking out opportunities for strategic partnerships.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meaningful engagement with the local community regarding projects, operations & sustainment initiatives and explore potential project opportunities. This includes effectively resolving important community related issues.
  • Identify community investment opportunities that contribute to improving the socio-economic well-being of the communities.
  • Assist with crafting Air Products responses and solutions to community concerns and support project engagement and consultation processes.
Job requirements:
  • University degree, combined with related work experience.
  • Consistent record (10+ years) working in Indigenous Relations and alongside communities in Alberta (Edmonton region) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, history, culture and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with ability to develop and cultivate relationships, across cultures.
  • Project management experience an asset, including supply chain processes and contract management, and balancing mutually paramount priorities.
  • Comfortable delivering presentations, public speaking and navigating situations.
  • Conflict resolution, negotiation skills, public participation training and/or related experiences are an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver\'s license and a clean driver abstract is required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to travel mainly within Canada and occasionally to the U.S.
