We are ready to take this game to the next level and need a passionate Senior Government & Stakeholder Relations Manager to provide specialized strategic advice and support to the SVP, Brand, Communications and Sustainability, and the Senior Director, Government and Stakeholder Relations, with key interactions and response strategies to OLG's government shareholder as represented by:

  • The responsible Minister and senior political staff; and
  • The Deputy Minister, Associate/Assistant Deputy Minister and senior Ministry staff
YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME

Reporting to the Sr Director Government & Stakeholder Relations, you will be empowered to:

Provide strategic advice to, and work with, senior staff across all OLG divisions to ensure corporate initiatives are aligned with current provincial government policy and priorities.

Develop strategies and products that assist with engaging/partnering with the government shareholder on initiatives and proposals with a provincial interest. This includes the development of business cases and working with Ministry officials to obtain statutory Ministerial approvals of critical business initiatives for OLG, including new casino developments and elements of OLG's Game ON strategy.

Directly produce briefing notes, issue notes, summary charts and power point presentations dealing with a broad range of technically complex financial, legal and politically contentious issues, the subject matter of which cuts across all OLG divisions and lines of business including lottery, land-based gaming (casinos, Charitable Gaming, horse racing), and digital.

Perform a quality assurance role (both in terms of technical accuracy and quality of the writing) with respect to written materials developed for consumption by the government, either ministry officials or political staff/Minister, as well as internal use by senior executives including the CEO.

Contribute to corporate brand building in identifying opportunities or risks for the corporation inherent in any interface with the public, stakeholders, the media and/or the government shareholder, and ability to leverage those opportunities or mitigate reputational risks.

Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous partners and communities, as well as other stakeholders to leverage strategic buy-in for OLG's business plan and mitigate reputational risk/conflict. Work with all OLG divisions to enable central coordination of intelligence with respect to Indigenous communities and stakeholder relations.

WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY

Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in government and/or stakeholder relations, strategy and public policy development, or communications. Previous work in the Ontario Public Service, or other federal or provincial government or agency is also an asset.

Education: Bachelor's degree in public policy, Business Administration or equivalent; Master's Degree is preferred. Specific knowledge of Ontario government policy and decision-making process, including an understanding of relevant legislation and regulations. Gaming industry knowledge. General understanding of key corporate social responsibility concepts and how they apply to OLG. General knowledge of business fundamentals, including finance, management, marketing, advertising, IT and project management.

Critical Skills: Ability to synthesize a high volume of information from across the business into clearly written, brief and factual accurate materials for senior management and/or OLG's government shareholder, under tight timelines in high pressure situations. Ability to brief OLG Senior Management, including the CEO, as well as SVP, Brand, Communications and Sustainability, and Director on key issues and status of various files. Political acuity and judgement required to frame and position issues appropriately for internal and external discussions. Ability to foster good working relationships broadly across the organization and externally, enabling the efficient flow of information from divisions and lines of business into the branch for use in formulating rapid, accurate responses for the government shareholder, as well as cultivating effective OLG/Ministry engagement and working relationships.

CROSS FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: This role interacts with all divisions and lines of business at OLG, including other groups in Brand, Communications and Sustainability.

External: This role interacts with officials from OLG's reporting Ministry, as well as MPP offices, Office of the Ontario Ombudsman, Financial Accountability Office of Ontario and Auditor General's Office. Additionally, there are interactions with Indigenous Communities and other stakeholders in areas such as horse racing, land-based gaming service providers and cGaming.
