Description

The Prince Albert Daily Herald in north central Saskatchewan is accepting applications for a full-time sports reporter/photographer. We are looking for a talented journalist who can cover a variety of sports for our daily newspaper and weekly Rural Roots publication.

The Prince Albert Daily Herald serves a city of nearly 38,000. Our newsroom is based out of Prince Albert, but we also cover stories of interest to readers in surrounding communities and the north.

Prince Albert is home to the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL, as well as the Prince Albert Mintos (U18 AAA boys), and the Prince Albert Northern Bears (U18 AAA girls) hockey teams. The city also has a very competitive high school and amateur sports scene.

Carlton Comprehensive Public High School is the largest high school in the province and has a strong sports rivalry with St. Mary High School. Cooke Municipal Golf Course regularly hosts amateur golf tournaments that draw competitors from across the province. The Prince Albert Predators are the defending Prairie Gold Lacrosse League champions, and Prince Albert Minor Softball teams often advance to provincial or national tournaments. Prince Albert will host the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup in July. The Art Hauser Centre, home of the Raiders, is widely considered one of the top "barns" in junior hockey.

Prince Albert is located along the North Saskatchewan River, with easy access to summer recreation activities like golfing, fishing, and hiking. Amenities include Little Red River Park, a 1,200-acre natural park with trails, a ski hill, and a toboggan hill. The City has also recently finished building a new indoor recreation centre with two rinks and a pool. The E.A. Rawlinson Centre regularly hosts performances from award-winning artists. Popular musical attractions in the north central region include MooseFest and the Ness Creek Music Festival. Prince Albert is a roughly one hour drive from Prince Albert National Park.

The Prince Albert Daily Herald is employee-owned.
