Job Summary



Under the supervision of the Park Technician 14, this position performs a variety of technical, operational, and supervisory duties related to the maintenance and operation of the Sports Field and Landscape Construction program.

Duties & Responsibilities


Coordinates the Sports Field Line Painting Program and provides technical support, evaluation, and scheduling of program activities. Performs the physical tasks required of Sports Field Line Painting Program. Assists with the supervision and training of assigned staff through on-site coaching, and technical mentorship. Participates in the landscape application of selected herbicide as required. Assists in completing field inspection checks and maintains records using the weekly Sports Field service sheets. Assists with maintaining Sports Field and Landscape Construction supplies inventory, ensuring adequate stock is available by ordering required supplies and arrange for delivery. Collaborates with other departments on various projects and responds to requests where Sports Fields and Landscape Construction knowledge is required. Assists with the development of processes, policies, standards, and specifications. Operates all types of park maintenance equipment and assists staff in proper operating and maintenance techniques. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon's administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public health and safety. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience Requirements:


Grade 12 education. Successful completion of three recognized core courses from a recognized horticulture diploma program. Successful completion of one core course in turf maintenance within one year after the date of hire. Three seasons' horticulture experience, including one season in parks horticulture. Experience in operating power mobile equipment would be an asset. Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence. Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record. Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months after date of hire, the appropriate Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Permits. Possession of, or ability to obtain, within one year after date of hire, a valid First Aid Certificate.



Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:


Considerable knowledge of industry standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in sports turf and ball diamond maintenance. Knowledge of environmental factors (soil type, wind, temperature, precipitation, and humidity) that impact sports turf requirements. Knowledge of aggregates and methods used in Landscape Construction. Experience with heavy equipment is an asset. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in the use of tools and equipment used in Park ground maintenance and construction. Knowledge in sports field operations is an asset. Proficiency in the use of computer systems, including Microsoft Office, email, database applications. Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP) is an asset. Ability to organize daily servicing and turf repair requests in an efficient manner. Ability to mentor and coach staff as well as work with minimal supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other civic employees. Ability to multi-task between priorities. Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

$27.44 to $30.25 CAD

per hour
