Job Summary
An opportunity to make a difference to the lives of BC\xe2\x80\x99s children and youth! A Senior Child Protection Worker provides clinical advice and direction to child protection workers within an identified geographic area in their day to day work with cases. Through hands on mentoring, the Senior Child Protection Worker is responsible for the development of child protection staff, including those within the growth series, through day to day guidance and mentorship on case practice. This position will apply enhanced understanding and knowledge of child protection practice and theory, case management practices and the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) to assist in the planning and coordination of services to families and children. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements. 1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Child and Youth Care OR Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services OR Master\xe2\x80\x99s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of two years of recent related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing. Additional Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of fully delegated (C6) child protection experience, gained within the last five years.
  • Experience mentoring and leading staff.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Experience conducting Investigations into Family Care Homes and Investigations into Contracted Agencies.
  • Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience in leadership (i.e. projects).
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
