Job Summary

The Team

Part of the Northern Service Delivery Area, this team is comprised of 2 -7 on, 7 off Child Protection workers and a remote team leader supporting the team in providing service to the large Stikine geographic area. This team collaborates with ministry and community partners to ensure child safety, and provides support and planning for children, youth, and families. The team works closely alongside local Indigenous communities including the Tahltan Nation, Taku River Tlingit First Nations and Kaska Dene Nation. The team focuses on culturally safe, collaborative and wrap around care for the children, youth and families being served.

The Role

The generalist Child Protection Worker (7 days on 7 days off) role in Dease Lake offers immediate support to clients during moments of extreme crisis or conflict, making a significant and tangible impact on their lives. Candidates should be excited about the diversity of the work, which includes screening reports, assessing immediate safety, performing wellbeing checks, collaboratively creating safety and family plans, serving court documents, supporting children and youth in care and out of care, supporting caregivers and more. This role is responsible for several program areas including child protection, guardianship and resources. Each shift brings unique challenges and opportunities, ensuring that no two days are the same. Ideal applicants will be inspired by the opportunity to handle complex cases independently, manage crises, and make a real difference in their community during emotionally charged situations.

Job Requirements:

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

1. Preferred Credentials:

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor's Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care

OR

Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare

OR

In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)

OR

A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved. +

NOTE:

If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials:

Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field

OR

Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field

AFTER

the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.

PLUS

, a minimum of one (1) year of related

Human Services fields include:

Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) Eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA). Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and are able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:

This position is on travel status.

The position will be providing services in Dease Lake and your home and/or headquarter will be located in Terrace, Hazelton, Smithers, Stewart, Dease Lake or Atlin (or equally cost effective location).

In addition to Dease Lake, this position serves the following communities: Telegraph Creek, Good Hope Lake, Iskut, Atlin and Lower Post.

This position will work on a travelling schedule working seven (7) days in the office followed by seven (7) days of rest at their home location (home location is defined as your usual place of residence). Travel to and from the community offices will occur within the scheduled work days.

This position has full time onsite requirements.


This position is not eligible for Isolation Allowance or Retention Incentive Programs.

An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and temporary vacancies.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
