Summary

Providing service to Bethany locations in Sylvan Lake and Collegeside, and reporting to the Director, Service Excellence & Resident Experience, the Spiritual Care Practitioner\xe2\x80\x99s role is to promote high quality, multi-faith, spiritual care aligned with the mission vision and values of Bethany Care Society. This role is responsible and accountable for the provision of assessments and interventions directed at optimizing multi-faith spiritual care to residents, families, staff and volunteers of Bethany. The Spiritual Care Practitioner models and promotes respect for diversity, accepting all people from where they are and who they are in the provision of culturally appropriate spiritual care and support.

The successful candidate will carry out their duties with discernment, wisdom, compassion and a passion for the spiritual well-being of residents, families, employees and volunteers. They will provide and assist with appropriate multi-faith spiritual and religious practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promotes multi-faith spiritual well-being
  • Plans and implements Spiritual Presence through Ministry
  • Facilitates and coordinates pastoral care to meet the spiritual needs of residents in a multi-faith context
  • Conducts or delegates worship leadership including sacramental ministry
  • Conducts or delegates weekly bible study, or other faith and spiritual development programs
  • Facilitates opportunities for prayer, reflection, meditation and rituals for the celebration of festivals and holy days for all faiths represented and services that honor the individuals served
  • Maintains visibility and ensures availability to talk to individuals and/or groups about spiritual concerns
  • Attends and participates in resident /family conferences and interdisciplinary meetings providing information from spiritual assessment
  • Provides/facilitates client-centered compassion-based counselling and support for residents, families, employees and volunteers
  • Conducts ongoing spiritual assessments with residents in a timely manner, ensuring assessment are documented
  • Accurately documents, tracks information and creates reports relating to spiritual care of residents
  • Provides daily/monthly statistical reporting on resident care including attendance and engagement in programing and spiritual care initiatives.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment, development and appropriate use of spiritual care volunteers
  • Engages with external spiritual care providers including chaplains, faith community representatives in order to initiate and implement partnerships with faith communities and other groups which foster the mission of Bethany
  • Participates in the education of employees and volunteers related to their roles and responsibilities in providing spiritual care
  • Educates employees, volunteers, residents and families about Spiritual Care and the role of the Spiritual Care Practitioner
  • In collaboration with leaders, promotes the integration of spiritual care into the culture of the organization
Qualifications

Education and Professional Accreditation:
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree from an accredited theological school plus clinical pastoral education (CPE) \xe2\x80\x93 completion of two advanced Units or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Formal training in working with persons with dementia or Alzheimer\xe2\x80\x99s is an asset
  • Ordination and/or official endorsement for Pastoral Ministry within a religious denomination
  • Active membership with CASC
  • Valid Class 5 drivers\xe2\x80\x99 license and reliable vehicle as travel will required between sites
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years pastoral care experience
  • Working with seniors is an asset
  • Experience in program development
  • Experience in program development within a multi-faith environment is an asset
