Your Opportunity:

The South Health Campus (SHC) is more than just a \xe2\x80\x9chospital\xe2\x80\x9d. It is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The Speech Language Pathology team provides services to the inpatient acute care units as well as the Ambulatory Neurology clinics. The current caseload for this position is working with the adult population in our inpatient acute care units with some coverage and assistance in the outpatient neurology clinics. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager, this position is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the service as well as the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to professional practice standards. The Speech Language Pathologist may also participate in program evaluation, continuing education, peer evaluation and student supervision. This position works with many interdisciplinary teams and requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong self-management skills and flexibility are also essential in this position. The ability to prioritize and manage caseload efficiently and proficiently is required. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment.

Description:

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:

Master\'s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider Level C through Heart and Stroke. Experience with adult dysphagia. Experience working in the acute inpatient setting as a SLP. Preferred Qualifications:

Competent and independent performance of Modified Barium Swallow studies. FEES training and competencies. Experience with clinical software including Connect Care, Netcare and Nuance PS360 (dication). Experience working with Therapy Assistants. Experience working with adults in an outpatient clinic setting. Experience working with adults who have neurological conditions. Experience working with patients who have communication disorders, including speech, language and cognitive communication.
