Apply today to join our team!As a Speech Language Pathologist with VCH you will:

  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team responsible for achieving quality client-focused care through the implementation, organization, and delivery of speech language pathology services through the TIDES (Telehealth & Innovation Deployment, Education & Sustainment) program.
  • TIDES team-members provide short-term transitional rehabilitation services to support patients/clients repatriating to, or remaining in, their home communities.
  • Duties include assessing, diagnosing, and treating the full range of communication and swallowing disorders for adult clients in home, facilities, community, or clinic settings.
  • Using an evidence-based approach, plan and implement goal-directed services, evaluate the effective of services, prepare and maintain records, educate clients/family members, and provide counseling and consultation.
  • Work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and the Coastal Speech Language Pathology Practice Lead.
  • Travel to rural/remote communities within the VCH Coastal Community of Care to provide one-to-one assessments, care plans and higher risk interventions in person, with follow up via Telehealth for ongoing rehabilitation with the local TIDES Rehabilitation Assistant.
  • Participate in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, risk management, research, and education.

Sechelt Hospital provides a full range of services to the community, including Emergency care, Renal program \xe2\x80\x93 community dialysis units, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies and imaging services.QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Current full registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHHPBC).
  • Three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 recent related experience as a Speech Language Pathologist assessing and treating adults with acquired communication disorders and dysphagia management.
  • Valid BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License is required. Use of personal vehicle may be required for travel between sites for which mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with the current collective agreement.

  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based practice related to neurological conditions, complex chronic diseases and acquired brain injury management.
  • Broad knowledge in cultural competency
  • Broad knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, direct, and monitor complex patient care via Telehealth.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and influence group and inter-group processes, decision making and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with clients and families in order to explore issues that are beyond the initial presented concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, team members, other groups and community agency personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families/residents.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for treatment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system. and to use Telehealth to provide for ongoing rehabilitation services.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
