Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and experienced Specialized Life Enrichment Coordinator with a passion and experience working with those with dementia to lead and develop life-enrichment programs for residents in our all-female Memory Care neighbourhood. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia through meaningful, person-centered engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Creative Program Development & Implementation:

o Deliver engaging, therapeutic activity programs that go beyond traditional formats--using music, art, storytelling, nature, sensory stimulation, movement, and reminiscence therapies tailored to the cognitive, physical, and emotional needs of memory care residents.

o Use creative approaches to adapt activities to various cognitive levels and promote active participation.

o Incorporate evidence-based practices and sensory stimulation techniques to support memory recall, reduce agitation, and promote well-being.

o Foster a dynamic, uplifting environment where residents feel encouraged to explore and express themselves.

Resident Engagement:

o Conduct one-on-one and group activities that align with residents' life histories, preferences, and current abilities.

o Promote inclusion, dignity, and a sense of purpose for all participants.

Staff & Volunteer Collaboration:

o Develop, recruit and foster a volunteer program to assist in activities supporting the daily interactions with memory care residents.

o Work closely with care staff to integrate activities into daily routines and address behavioral or emotional challenges.

Family & Community Involvement:

o Communicate regularly with families regarding resident participation and progress.

o Plan family-inclusive events and foster community partnerships for intergenerational and cultural programming.

Documentation & Compliance:

o Maintain accurate records of resident participation, progress notes, and care plans when or if necessary.

Qualifications:

Ideal experience: Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, or a related field

Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in memory care or dementia-specific settings.

Strong understanding of Alzheimer's and dementia care best practices.

Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to adapt quickly, demonstrate empathy, and create joyful experiences in a structured, supportive environment.

Working Conditions:

This position involves direct interaction with residents in a variety of physical and emotional states.

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with mobility if needed.

Occasional evening, weekend, holiday events or open houses may be required.

Tuesday - Saturday workweek
