Job Posting: Specialized Community Support Worker - Advanced Placement
We are seeking a skilled and grounded Specialized Community Support Worker to work within our Advanced Placement team. This role supports individuals who may face increased behavioural, emotional, or environmental challenges that impact their sense of safety and well-being. Ideal candidates bring a trauma-informed lens, strong de-escalation skills, and the ability to provide consistent, compassionate care in dynamic situations.
In this advanced placement, you will play a key role in helping clients develop life skills, build resilience, and access meaningful community opportunities--all while supporting their sense of safety, autonomy, and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in assessments and contribute to trauma-informed Individualized Support Plans tailored to each person's strengths, goals, and support needs.
Collaborate with clients and their personal/professional support networks to create short- and long-term plans that promote stability, skill development, and self-determination.
Support individuals with complex behavioural presentations to increase independence within their homes and community.
Provide guidance in daily life skills, social skills, emotional regulation, and behaviour management using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches.
Teach and assist with activities such as hygiene, basic cooking, money management, shopping, and safety practices.
Facilitate recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities that promote both skill building and emotional well-being.
Accompany or transport individuals to appointments and community outings while providing calm, predictable support.
Recognize early indicators of escalation, implement proactive strategies, and respond safely and respectfully to emergencies or crisis situations.
Administer medications and follow health and safety protocols consistently.
Attend to physical, emotional, and mental health needs while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Complete documentation thoroughly, accurately, and in alignment with trauma-informed principles.
Communicate openly and contribute to a collaborative team environment, including participation in staff meetings and care reviews.
Perform other related duties as needed.
Education & Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook (Required)
Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Required)
Clear Social Development Check (Completed in-house)
Valid First Aid & CPR certification (Required)
Reliable transportation (Required)
Minimum 19 years of age (Required)
Current NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) or equivalent training (Strong Asset)
Food Safe certification (Asset, not required)
Experience in mental health, trauma-informed care, or behavioural support (Required)
