About this opportunity:

The Refinery Scheduling Specialist is the subject matter expert for the safe, compliant, and value optimized movement of crude feedstock throughout our domestic and international distribution markets to our U.S. Refining assets.

The scope includes ensuring continuous operations of our refinery assets, while redefining trade and marketing strategies into execution of priorities and initiatives under multiple jurisdictions.

This exciting opportunity is available to applicants in Canada and the United States. This position can be located in Calgary AB and/or Houston TX.

Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate U.S. Refinery feedstock in collaboration with Upstream pipeline schedulers

Build and steward scheduling-related policies and procedures within the organization

Undertake transport planning, execution and tracking to completion in compliance

Monitor and understand the levers that can be applied to pre-empt operational issues

Ensure compliance with all legal, contractual, and financial parameters including any applicable international or local laws, regulations, restrictions, and requirements

Liaise with pipeline, rail, and other schedulers to ensure smooth operations, minimize supply disruptions, and optimize pipeline utilization

Identify emerging logistics-related issues affecting Cenovus\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plans and refinery unit capability and potential impacts to refinery run rates

Represent Cenovus to industry related organizations both domestically and internationally

Identify, evaluate, advise, and execute on trade strategies that improve operational performance and drive commercial value

Appoint and lead inspectors to ensure all testing and measurement is completed accurately for product movements

Ensure accurate decisions regarding nomination strategies, accuracy of daily P&L and exposure reports, and procedures are followed

Negotiate applicable spot storage throughput deals and monitor KPI\xe2\x80\x99s related to refinery optimization

Review, finalization, and continual testing of emergency preparedness in emergency response capacity

Ensure all data pertaining to scheduling, customs, claims, and loss/gains are accurately communicated and accounted for in systems of record

Drive critical decisions related to market volatility, including assessment and communication of operational risks and mitigations

Accountable for operationalizing commercial contracts and project management

Partner closely with Commercial Operations and Trading to optimize new and existing contracts, ensuring Cenovus receives efficient value from our marketing activities while reducing risk

React quickly to operational upsets and outages and identify mitigations to enhance crude throughputs, which may require after hours availability

Partner with Trading to handle crude slates between refinery assets and provide flexibility to optimize through grade switching and blending activities

Qualifications:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Minimum of 10+ years of direct experience in commodity logistics and refinery commercial scheduling

Proven ability to execute and operationalize business development strategies from concept to execution

Commercial and operational understanding of North American commodity transportation networks and pipeline and terminal infrastructure; specifically, connectivity to and from Canada and throughout mid-west and US Gulf Coast markets

Independent decision-making with an ability to influence/direct commercial decisions

Proficient in ETRM systems, Excel and adapts easily to other related platforms

Established relationships with industry and strategic 3rd party customers, terminals, and pipelines

Strong understanding of tariffs, regulations, and contractual language, including ability identify risk mitigation optionality

Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Knowledge of best practices for front, middle and back-office groups at a trading organization

Demonstrated mentorship of peers with an emphasis on implementing change management
