Mandatory requirements
You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Technical knowledge:
You have knowledge of the theories, principles and practices related to transportation planning and traffic management engineering and technology.
You can use your knowledge to assess traffic characteristics, advanced traffic management strategies, highway design and construction and maintenance practices.

Research, analytical and problem-solving skills:
You can develop and evaluate proposals for traffic engineering, safety and operational issues and present recommendations.
You can interpret and apply policies, procedures and guidelines and compare alternative solutions, conduct benefit analysis and recommend strategies for improvement.
You can identify existing and potential traffic operational problems and evaluate alternatives in a complex traffic environment.

Leadership skills:
Oversees the testing and evaluation of new devices or methods to improve safety and operational efficiency including within construction and maintenance areas.

Communication and interpersonal skills:
You can prepare projects plans and reports, and convey complex issues with clients.
You can use interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients.
You can provide advice to external clients on traffic operations issues and to recommend policies, procedures and systems enhancements.

Computer skills:
You have well-developed computer software skills, such as relevant traffic engineering software, AutoCAD, word processing, spreadsheet, database and e-mail.
You can access and analyze traffic data, conduct simulations, prepare reports and presentations.
