Job Summary

As CATS (Crew Assignments and Timekeeping System) Application Support Specialist, you will be responsible for safe-guarding applications in the areas of daily operation, service scheduling. You will provide operational support services across pre-production and production environments for CN\'s core applications, to exchange information with internal and external trading partners. You will join a dynamic Team of SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) accountable for integration of new projects into existing core systems. As Application Support Specialist, you will work with business user, 3rd party vendor, analyze, and provide solutions for project integrations, enhancements, and fixes for defects. Solutions implemented must be sound and follow ITIL, and SOX requirements. All code changes must be optimized, efficient and ensure that needs of our business partners, and new customers are met. Sox and government legislated requirements must also be satisfactorily met.
As a Specialist, you will be expected to understand business requirements, troubleshoot issues, perform analysis, design, and program using ITIL framework. Technical documentation, impact analysis, test scenarios are also functions and capabilities within the Specialist\'s toolkit.

Main Responsibilities

\xc2\xb7 15+ years experience with mainframe development.
\xc2\xb7 Development using COBOL programming language.
\xc2\xb7 Online CICS programming with screens.
\xc2\xb7 Strong batch processing with JCL, scheduler tool.
\xc2\xb7 Experience and ability in on-call rotation support role of critical, time sensitive applications.
\xc2\xb7 Perform analysis of system issues, to design effective solutions to meet business needs.
\xc2\xb7 Provide estimates, technical design, program specifications, code, unit test and integration testing.
\xc2\xb7 Contribute to, prepare implementation plan for deployment, cutover and fallback. Monitor promotion.
\xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with all CN IT standards (e.g. code reviews, security, architecture, systems platform, performance, service now SLAs, SOX etc).

Operational Excellence

\xc2\xb7 Provide 24/7 support of CATS service offerings to meet service level agreements (SLA).
\xc2\xb7 Lead incidents and support problem investigations, providing resolutions and follow-up on lessons learned.
\xc2\xb7 Provide technical expertise and leadership in mitigating solutions as project resource.
\xc2\xb7 Experience using Microsoft (Teams) and Service Now (SNow) to leverage SDLC and meet service level commitments.
\xc2\xb7 Work with Product Managers to ensure all work is prioritized and approved by Product Owners.
\xc2\xb7 Support business continuity planning and disaster recovery (BRP/DR) efforts.
\xc2\xb7 Integrate ITIL framework and best practices into life cycle of applications supported.
\xc2\xb7 Complete service requests in timely manner to contribute to KPIs on system performance and availability.

Delivery/Modernization

\xc2\xb7 Participate in T2C transition of new projects to core support.
\xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with all CN IT standards (ie Security, SOX etc).
\xc2\xb7 Change and release management procedures must be adhered to using Service Now.
\xc2\xb7 Provide automated solutions for process and support activities to reduce resolution time.
\xc2\xb7 Facilitate/participate in meetings and brainstorming workshops with projects, business, and external partners.

Customer Satisfaction

\xc2\xb7 Foster strong relationships with business partners, and ITCC.
\xc2\xb7 Manage (on rotation basis) Team mailbox and Service Now requests.
\xc2\xb7 Liaison with other teams, vendors, and managed services.
\xc2\xb7 Assist with business prioritizations for enhancement/defects.

Education/Certification/Designation

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor\'s degree in computer science and software engineering.
\xc2\xb7 Bilingual with high proficiency in English (spoken/written)
\xc2\xb7 Ability to communicate effectively with management, as well as across technical & business areas.
\xc2\xb7 Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
\xc2\xb7 Prioritize and multi-task well, in high-pressure critical applications.
\xc2\xb7 Strength in problem troubleshooting, solving, and analytical skills.
\xc2\xb7 High energy leader who engages and motivates others.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

\xc2\xb7 Functional design skills
\xc2\xb7 Strong programming language COBOL
\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of batch processing concepts, strong knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL), Syncsort, Job scheduler
\xc2\xb7 Mainframe development complex IPSF/TSO, CICS, VSAM, DB2, IBM Debug tool, file Manager
\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of environment control system (ISPW or Endevor).
