The Role

The Specialist, Social Media and Influencer supports consumer marketing partnerships, earned media, and executes Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s social media and influencer marketing strategies for the Destination Promotion team. The Specialist, Social Media and Influencer monitors and maintains our brand presence on our priority social accounts. They engage and build relationships with our followers, industry partners and future travelers, aligning with Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s organic social strategy and business objectives.

Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s core consumer social media channels include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and other social channels as required. The Specialist also recommends and manages the budget for boosted organic posts and influencer trips. For the influencer portfolio, the Specialist will work with the Manager, Media Relations, on strategy for all upcoming influencer activations, creating the itinerary and managing visits.

Fostering strong relationships with partners, agencies, and team members is critical in this Specialist role. The Specialist will lead and support the coordination of organizational tasks and possesses expertise and leadership in social media and influencer. The Specialist will also lead and support the team with internal and external communications, timelines, and project leadership, along with a variety of other duties that align with Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s strategy.

What You Will Need

  • A degree or diploma in tourism, marketing, communications or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience managing social media advertising in a corporate setting, including the use of Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube. This includes experience in community management for a brand.

  • You are media savvy and have a deep understanding of the ever-changing media landscape including traditional PR, digital platforms, and social media channels.
  • You are detail-oriented and have strong writing and communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly, concisely, and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • You stay organized amidst competing priorities and can efficiently coordinate the logistics for media and influencer trips and travel itineraries.
  • You have excellent presentation skills and experience in presenting plans, strategies, and results to internal and external partners.
  • You build productive and positive working relationships quickly with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders \xe2\x80\x93 it simply comes naturally to you no matter the stakeholder ranging from media, DMOs, agencies, and tourism industry partners.
  • You have strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and partners simultaneously and can adapt to changing environments.
  • You\xe2\x80\x99re a team player first and naturally include others in sharing information and seeking input.
  • You\xe2\x80\x99re a strategic thinker with the ability to analyze market trends and insights and can identify storytelling opportunities that align with Travel Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s organizational goals.
  • You have high emotional intelligence with the ability to understand and empathize with different perspectives, handle sensitive situations diplomatically and can navigate crises and conflicts effectively.
  • You\xe2\x80\x99re passionate about Alberta as a travel destination and ideally have experience working in the tourism industry.
Accountabilities & Deliverables

Organic Social Media Planning & Execution
  • Autonomy to manage, lead, monitor, and respond to community postings on behalf of Travel Alberta on all consumer-facing social channels, including issues management monitoring and response.
  • Manages and works closely with agency partners on alignment opportunities with campaigns, content, and social media management.
  • Consults and collaborates with Content team on social content needs; creates content according to brand standards and adapts content for our social platforms.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with other Travel Alberta teams and Alberta tourism industry partners to ensure a seamless and timely response to traveler inquiries.
Influencer Planning & Execution
  • Ensures influencer strategy aligns with overall consumer team strategy, marketing key performance indicators and the Travel Alberta business objectives.
  • Monitors and reports on performance, trends and insights from influencer activations to the Travel Alberta Team and industry partners.
  • Supports the logistics for Influencer content gathering including preparing itineraries in consultation with tourism industry partners.
  • Manages influencer budget and agency hours along with forecasting spend.
Earned Media & Content Partnership Support
  • Assist with the day-to-day coordination and execution of trip logistics for media visits.
  • Generate story ideas that drive consideration to travel to Alberta among high-value travelers in the U.S. and key international markets.
  • Support the execution of content partnerships including concepting story ideas, liaising with external agencies and assisting with production coordination.
Relationship Building and Collaboration
  • Shares performance for social media and influencer with internal teams and stakeholder partners.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with partners and agencies to ensure alignment and evaluate opportunities for further collaboration.
  • The Specialist will also be seen as the knowledge matter expert to expand partner learning in both the social and influencer space by highlighting new platforms, tactics or product opportunities, communicating best practices and presenting additional optimization opportunities.
