PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, Unions, the Payroll Specialist - Union is responsible to support the union payroll team & provide accurate payments & reporting for Aecon and the Unions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Respond to inquiries from Corporate, Sites, HR, Vendors, Audit within 24 hours as per the SLA.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to answer questions, research, and provide support to HCM & Payroll team
  • Remit and reconcile union payments & burdens timely and accurately
  • Ensure union statements are reviewed and reconciled monthly
  • Ensure accuracy of union retro calculations
  • Set up and test new Union rates and benefits as per Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Maintain and test Union Rate Changes
  • Liaise with Unions and Government Agencies
  • Research and respond to third party audit inquiries on a timely basis
  • Support new company set ups and ensure system is configured accurately as per the collective agreements
  • Recognize opportunities, recommend and initiate process improvements, deliver results
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide second-level support on escalation of customer service and vendor related service issues.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of improved processes and procedures
  • Work on projects as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Not applicable
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TRAINING NEEDS
  • Ability to multi-task and work under extremely tight time lines
  • Thorough working knowledge and experience with Trade Unions Required
  • Post secondary school education in an accounting related field
  • Enrolled in or completion of NPI payroll designation course preferred
  • 3 - 5 years direct experience in unionized payrolls
  • SAP HCM & Payroll experience
  • Advanced Excel & Business Objects
  • Possess a high attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity
  • Technical systems skills, as relates to payroll/HR, with third party payroll providers and HR/Payroll systems
  • Strong communication skills and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, probe, analyze, and solve complex problems
