The Specialist, Occupational Health & Hygiene is responsible for sustainable and reliable occupational health and hygiene services across Magna Mining's operations.

Responsibilities:



Conduct health hazard assessments and occupational exposure monitoring for chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic risks. Develop and implement industrial hygiene protocols and exposure monitoring plans. Execute on Occupational Hygiene Programs and associated medical surveillance requirements: Designated Substance; Occupational Exposure Monitoring; Respiratory Protection; Hearing Conservation; Hazardous Material; Respiratory Protection; Heat Stress; Cold Stress; and other related programs. Analyze exposure data to determine airborne exposure concentration of contaminants and compare them to regulatory standards and guidelines as well as accepted occupational exposure criteria and recommend control strategies to mitigate health risks. Consult with analytical laboratories pertaining to sampling and analytical methods. Advice on appropriate use of PPE and implement respiratory protection programs. Coordinate with occupational health providers to schedule pre-placement, periodic medical examinations and medical surveillance. Coordinate medical surveillance programs in accordance with regulatory and company requirements. Maintain accurate health records while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with applicable privacy laws Collaborate with emergency services as needed. Collaborate with the health and safety department regarding occupational exposure risks, monitor workers exposed to occupational hazards and ensure conformance with company standards and compliance with regulatory requirements. Manage work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses, through coordination between the employee, the third-party occupational health service provider, and site personnel. Participate in workplace inspections, incident investigations, and job hazard analyses, as required. Collaborate with the health and safety team to reduce workplace exposures and injuries. Coordinate return-to-work programs and fitness-for-duty evaluations. Plan, implement and promote health and wellness programs and health promotion initiatives. Support mental health awareness campaigns and employee assistance programs. Provide education and deliver routine training presentations to workers. Document reportable workplace exposures, injuries and illnesses per regulatory and company standards. Manage WSIB claims and accounts in accordance with regulatory and company standards. Follow up on occupational and non-occupational cases and liaise with treating physicians, insurers, and HR to facilitate early and safe return to work. Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies as needed.

Requirements



Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents





Post-secondary education in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Nursing or other related field. Certification or eligibility for certification in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health Nursing or equivalent is considered an asset.

Work Experience: Nature & Length





7 or more year of experience in occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational hygiene or employee health and wellness programs, preferably in mining or other heavy industry.

Key Competencies: Behaviours & Skills





Knowledge of federal and provincial health and safety regulations. Understanding of occupational hazards in mining (e.g., exposure to diesel particulate, silica, insoluble nickel, noise). Experience with injury case management, medical surveillance, and early and safe return to work programs. Excellent communication and documentation abilities. Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments. Proficient in health data management systems.
