About Potash

In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager Integrated Operations, the Specialist Laboratory is accountable for the delivery of all operational readiness tasks associated with the Jansen Laboratory facility in preparation for a safe and efficient start up.

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK working a 40-hour week on a Monday to Friday work schedule. As this role is not eligible for accommodation in the site camp, the incumbent must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.

About the Role

  • Determines sampling analysis requirements to ensure that the Jansen operation can meet and monitor quality, environment and performance of the mine and mill
  • Develops procedures & QA/QC programs across sample collection, preparation, and analysis to ensure accuracy of all results
  • Determines laboratory consumables and equipment servicing requirements and ensures contracts are in place
  • Key stakeholder in the setup of the laboratory information systems
  • Establishes routines for inter-laboratory check sample program
  • Develops training and competency requirements for laboratory technicians
About You
  • A diploma or degree in chemical, process or metallurgical engineering, or a related discipline such as chemistry
  • Applicable laboratory experience in the mining industry, preferably potash
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, and environment
  • Aptitude for translating technical documents into straightforward operator instructions
  • Ability to anticipate, mitigate and confidently resolve potential problems within and across teams
  • Strong communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with an aptitude for collaborating with a range of internal and external stakeholders
