Plains is seeking a Specialist to work within our environmental permitting and remediation team for a term of approximately six months. Based out of our head office in Calgary, Alberta, and reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Permitting, you will be responsible for assisting with the planning and permitting activities associated with operational activities and our capital expansion and integrity programs. In addition, you will also provide technical support to project execution teams, advising on timing restrictions and identifying required field studies and regulatory submissions for all asset lifecycle phases. The role includes retaining and overseeing third-party consultants to complete field work.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and support to operations and other internal departments as a subject matter expert on permitting and biophysical study requirements, timelines, and costs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to third-party consultants (if retained).
  • Propose and report on project budgets.
  • Attend project and safety meetings to discuss environmental hazards, risks, requirements, and mitigation measures.
  • Support implementation of Environmental Planning Process, Environmental Protection Program (EPP) and Operations Management System (OMS).
  • Support and strive to meet company goals, objectives, and targets.
  • Prepare updates as required to meet internal reporting / communication requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies, cost reductions and/or improvements in environmental planning, permitting, and performance.
  • Promote the concepts of environmental protection, controls, and processes.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 planning and permitting support as well as project management experience related to capital expansion programs, integrity programs, and operational activities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental permitting regulations, submissions, and requirements for planning, construction, and post-construction stages (including RTF, TDL, Code of Practice, Water Act Approvals, DFO Request for Review, SARA, EEC, Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Proposals, Water Rights Licenses and Historical Resource Branch Clearances) across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba is required.
  • Familiarity with wildlife surveys, migratory bird breeding and nesting surveys, and wetland/aquatic assessments.
  • Technical experience managing environmental sensitivities, implementing mitigation measures, and tracking / reporting of requirements during all project phases.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized with strong communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • A team player who thrives in a busy environment with multiple priorities.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) check and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with a clean abstract.
