What you'll do
BC Hydro Engineering is searching for a Specialist Geological Engineer or Geotechnical Engineer to support ongoing
capitals projects across the province at a Specialist Engineer level.
Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers to deliver cost-effective solutions for BC Hydro's operations and capital
programs on existing hydroelectric facilities and reservoir slopes.
Be responsible for planning and coordination of site exploration programs, development of geological models, site
characterization, landslide stability assessment, supervising and/or conducting engineering analyses, carrying out
feasibility, preliminary and detailed design and reporting, as well as drafting oversight. Plan and execute advanced
numerical analysis of groundwater flow and ground movement in ancient, slow moving landslides.
Provide oversight to project work of assigned internal (BC Hydro) staff and Consultants and review completed work to
ensure accuracy and adherence to accepted engineering practice and achievement of project objectives.
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal staff and Consultants.
What you bring
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Geological Engineering or Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering is required.
Must be currently registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and
Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
A minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience is required. Candidates with lower levels of experience may be
considered for a lower-level position.
Effective verbal and written communication including report writing skills are essential.
Ability to provide work leadership or technical direction to engineers or other technical staff.
Demonstrated education, training and experience with as many of the following key subject areas as possible is desired:
Rock mechanics including rock mass quality assessment and characterization.
Rock tunnel inspection and support design.
Rockslide characterization, monitoring and analysis.
Rockfall monitoring, assessment and mitigation.
Investigation and evaluation of geological and geotechnical hazards.
Rock quarry development planning and execution.
Development of 3D geological models for both rock and soil deposits.
Soil liquefaction and internal erosion susceptibility assessments.
