The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Specialist, Engineer EI&C to join our NA Project Studies team in Sudbury. This is a full-time permanent position.

The Specialist Engineer Electrical Instrumentation and Controls (EI&C) role is responsible for coordinating overall EI&C engineering matters across all projects in the portfolio. This includes the review of and recommendations regarding all engineering solutions. The projects include FEL 1 and FEL 2 studies. They are responsible to contribute to their projects and ensure they are finalized within scope, cost, and schedule baselines, while ensuring the projects are delivered within the safety and quality objectives agreed for the project.

  • Leads and actively promotes behaviors with Vale\xe2\x80\x99s safety goals for all stakeholders including employees, contractors, customers and members of the community
  • Accountable for achieving zero harm by participating in the design of safe working systems, site inspections and safety interactions in their project area and ensuring all follow-up actions are carried out.

  • Educates peers on the SPE deliverables.
  • Influences project team members performance and influences their activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved.
  • Communicates regularly with the Project team both internally and externally on strategies to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood
  • Recommends to the Manager, Project Engineering any requirements for additional resources and strategies to maintain the schedule.
Leadership
  • Review proposed infrastructure solutions to confirm general conformance with related regulations, policies, standards and guidelines. Provide feedback on any gaps or opportunities to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide support to the team and senior leadership on industry leading infrastructure practices
  • Anticipate and propose solutions to current/potential infrastructure risks.
  • coordinates the engineering input including in project review for the project tollgate/maturity assessments and ensures follow-up actions are completed.
  • Interfaces with other members of the Project Team and contractors to ensure no aspect of the project is overlooked or lags in progress and assists in the development and implementation of recovery plans.
  • Leads, co-ordinates and monitors study areas and contractors within their responsible discipline to ensure project requirements are achieved.
  • Oversees Contract Management of their assigned contract packages to ensure timely submission of deliverables and approval of all Contract Changes.
Outcomes
  • Responsible for review and delivery of engineering for the FEL 1 and FEL 2 studies as agreed by the Manager, Project Engineering taking into consideration the full project lifecycle.
  • Coordinates and ensures compliance to project procedures including the management of project documentation and ensuring these are received, reviewed, commented, responded, and incorporated in project archives.
  • Coordinates the outputs of their assigned project team or teams in line with the detailed scope, cost, and schedule control baselines and manages any project changes in terms of this agreed baseline.
  • Mitigates project delays by coordinating the different functions and establishing priorities.
  • Ensures measurement of progress on all contracts for reporting progress to the Manager, Project Engineering and broader team as required.
  • Ensures scope forecast of cost and schedule is updated as prescribed by the project requirements.
  • Ensures all trade-offs and engineering is delivered to required standards.
  • Facilitates regular interactions with end users to ensure site specific requirements are incorporated.
  • Achieves an intimate understanding of their respective areas at the sites where studies are conducted
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor (or equivalent) of Engineering in appropriate discipline
  • P. Eng, Chartered Engineer or home country equivalent if preferred
Skills and Experience:
  • Unwavering commitment to safety
  • A bias to action and a demonstrated history of delivering results.
  • Experience in managing FEL 1/2/3 level studies
  • Operational experience in extractive or infrastructure industries, with a broad network with specialized experts and associates in the mining business and infrastructure fields.
  • Experience in large/mega project studies and their execution in extractive or infrastructure industries
  • Sustaining capital execution experience.
  • Underground, open pit and processing experience.
  • A strong understanding of underground and surface equipment requirements to support mine development and production operations.
  • Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills. Able to write clear and concise reports and presentation materials. Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
  • Substantial experience working onsite.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to present detailed and complicated concepts and information succinctly.
  • Ability to evaluate alternative options and recommend preferred solution while outlining benefits and downside risks.
  • Ability to work with various groups and gain alignment.
  • Flexibility for domestic and international travel.
  • Strong technical competence in your respective discipline.
  • It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience with playing a key role in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
  • Experience with brownfield projects, operations or maintenance roles.
  • Experience with various commodities.
  • Knowledge of project delivery system SPE deliverables.
  • PMP qualification
