Working under the direction of the Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness & Security, the Emergency Preparedness & Security Specialist works as a member of the NOVA Chemicals Responsible Care Team providing advice and guidance in the area of Emergency Preparedness & Security. This position will work collaboratively with all departments including but not limited to Process Operations, Facility Maintenance, Security Contractor, Environmental Services and Risk Management, to develop, implement, audit, and update emergency preparedness & security plans/programs within NOVA Chemicals Manufacturing East Sites.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Provide support and guidance to maintain compliance with Local, Provincial, and Federal Regulations.
  • Lead and facilitate emergency preparedness & security programs including training for site employees and management of regional emergency response assets.
  • Actively participate in, and support emergency preparedness auditing; ensure recommendations address audit findings and prompt closure is complete.
  • Collaborate with Operations to support the preparation and facilitation of Tabletop & Functional Field Exercises & Drills.
  • Lead, participate in, and/or facilitate the deployment or implementation of Field Response Group activities, at the discretion of the Incident Commander.
  • Provide support to external emergency response organization within the community and be an active member of the Manufacturing East Emergency Back Up Crew
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Natural or Applied Sciences or equivalent, with 3-5 years related practical experience or a 2-year technical school diploma with 6+ years of related practical experience.
  • OFM/OAFC Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Program Certificate or approved equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to develop building and site emergency response and security plans.
  • Familiarization & working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code.
  • Familiarization with coordinating site security activities and post orders.
  • Knowledge of NFPA regulations regarding fire protection services.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear judgement in a fast pace and high stress environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with MS Office. SAP experience would be considered an asset.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with experience in an industrial setting

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Cross border / international moves involving immigration will NOT be considered for this role

  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift position
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver\'s license
