Capital Power is looking for an individual who is organized, detail orientated to join our Credit Risk team in Calgary!
As the Credit Risk Specialist, you will play a key role in exposure reporting, financial analysis, and margin management, while collaborating with internal stakeholders across Capital Power.
You will contribute to our team by:
Receiving and issuing margin calls promptly by utilizing internal calculators and maintaining relationships with external counterparts
Managing bank relationships to issue and amend letters of credit in a timely manner, including liaising directly with banks and counterparties on behalf of the Credit department.
Providing timely and accurate reporting to produce Policy-required daily, monthly, and quarterly Credit reports, and provides support as required to Accounting, Corporate Finance, and others to meet other internal and external reporting requirements.
Analyzing and assessing the financial condition and creditworthiness of applicable new counterparties and performing ongoing reviews of a portfolio of moderate complexity as required by the Credit Policy and work practices.
Preparing and issuing guarantee and collateral documents, with guidance from our Legal group.
Ensuring accurate capture and storage across all systems and physical locations. Including collateral, credit approvals, and limits.
Enhancing processes and procedures to increase accuracy and reduce time spent on operational tasks.
Negotiating credit terms for short term standardized agreements
Providing detailed analysis, recommendations, and authorizations (where applicable) for counterparty credit ratings and credit limits.
Providing input into Policy, Process, and technology decisions impacting Credit Risk to ensure accurate reporting.
Implementing or recommending new business processes or goals where applicable.
Filling information requests from management in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
Working with others to resolve issues within responsibilities and duties with guidance from manager(s) escalating complex issues as determined.
Providing input into areas regarding new and improved approaches to reporting, reconciling and migration to electronic document reporting and storing.
Incorporating new objectives and goals for Credit Risk into work responsibilities and duties.
Providing ongoing maintenance and support to ensure the accuracy and completeness of Capital Power's security records (LCs, PGs, cash, etc.).
Providing ongoing credit analysis and where applicable, recommending and implements pro-active exposure mitigation strategies.
Executing Credit Risk work that has a limited risk on Business Development/Commercial projects. Mitigating risk through system and process controls, cross checks, and reviews.
Ensuring risk management through peer reviews within Credit Risk.
Developing and maintaining cross-functional relationships across the company, especially financial services.
Working closely with Credit Team, for cross training and to ensure coverage of duties during absences.
Engaging and maintaining working rapport with external auditors.
Demonstrating professional work by being a business partner for various business areas.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting major or related field.
Educational equivalency may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience directly related to credit risk.
Experience in the energy sector is an asset.
Technical Skills:
Prior experience in Allegro ETRM would be an asset.
Demonstrate competencies in achieving deadlines, attention to detail and working independently.
Prior experience and knowledge of various security instruments such as parental guarantees, letters of credit, surety bonds and cash deposits/prepays.
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, dynamic environment and deal with multiple and often changing priorities.
Working knowledge of assessing counterparties' financial health via various means a definite asset (review of financial statements and notes, understanding external ratings, review of internal receivables data).
Demonstrate a track record illustrating you are a team player and can interact in a professional manner across all levels within an organization.
Possess strong written communication skills and working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
