Purpose

This is an exciting regional communications opportunity for an experienced practitioner, reporting to the Manager Communications and based at our North America headquarters in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.


As a key business partner to our Potash, Legacy Assets and Metals Exploration teams, the successful candidate will work closely with leaders and other stakeholders in the US, Canada and across BHP\xe2\x80\x99s global operations.


As a valued member of the global Communications team, the Specialist will lead the development of quality content for local, regional, and global audiences and deliver effective communications strategies that promote and protect BHP\xe2\x80\x99s strategic objectives.


This position is intended to be a 13-month term position.


About the Role

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with internal customers in Potash, Legacy Assets and Metals Exploration by delivering high impact communications activity
  • Provide strategic communications advice and develop effective engagement strategies to achieve business objectives in the Potash and broader North America portfolios
  • Deliver day-to-day workforce and stakeholder communications with a strong editorial focus, audience-centric mindset, and attention to detail
  • Lead preparations for regular Potash team engagement events including town halls and safety briefings as well as other operational and cultural priorities as required
  • Develop compelling content on key company priorities such as safety, operational performance, climate change, inclusion and diversity and Indigenous engagement
  • Contribute to established communications channels including the company intranet, newsletters, and a variety of community-facing publications
  • Provide social media planning and content counsel to key regional leaders, managing the process from development to publication
  • Align all communications output to BHP\xe2\x80\x99s strategic narrative, communications objectives, and brand standards



About You

You are a highly motivated communications professional with relevant experience supporting senior leaders with communications activities, contributing to content delivery in multiple locations, overseeing corporate brand application, and working autonomously to deploy timely and impactful engagement strategies.


As the successful candidate, you will be as confident working locally as you are globally. This role requires your skills in strategic communications, stakeholder management, and an ability to influence outcomes, as well as a passion for independently creating content relevant to internal and external stakeholders.


Additional attributes essential to the role include:
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or a related field
  • Proven ability to provide timely support to senior leaders, in line with business priorities
  • Excellent writing skills across a variety of written and visual mediums
  • Strong understanding of internal and external digital tools and platforms
  • Ability to collaborate and build strong networks across the company and project partners
  • Comfortable working autonomously to solve problems and manage issues
  • An eye for design and familiarity with software such as Canva, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Video production and photography capability
  • Strong project and time management skills
