Who we are:

The Office of Climate Change and Energy Management (OCCEM) has the lead role in enabling the Region of Peel to respond to climate change to create a low-carbon, resilient Community for Life, through principles of shared-leadership, balance, transparency and innovation.

OCCEM provides the expertise, knowledge, strategy and tools to enable regional services and community partners to embed climate change and energy management principles into practice while achieving divisional goals and organizational outcomes.

What you will do in this role:

In this position you will work directly with a team of Climate Change and Energy Management (CCEM) Advisors, as well as outside contractors and consultants, to manage the implementation of climate change and energy management initiatives.

  • Coordination of clients/vendors, purchasing procurement process management
  • Prepare, research and review relevant documentation and legislation
  • Draft reports and presentations for Advisors and the Manager
  • Facilitate meetings with teams and stakeholders
  • Provide detailed management and reporting of communication plans for various initiatives
  • Support climate change & energy management programs and plans through the development of communication materials, messaging (newsletters, weekly project updates) and messaging to clients (emails, status reports)
  • Offer recommendations on trends, risks and opportunities in the highly specialized area of climate change and energy management
  • Undertake significant research and in-depth investigation of energy consumption profiles for all Regional facilities to assist in identifying opportunities for climate change and energy management
  • Carry out pre and post energy retrofit reporting and analysis of Regional facilities to identify whether energy conservation and efficiency initiatives meet expected savings targets
  • Work closely with client programs in order to learn and understand the client program, processes and facility operations
  • Professionally address client and public enquiries regarding climate change and energy management
  • Monitor and report on capital expenditures and provide regular financial reporting update
  • Provide expert interpretation and advice on relevant energy legislation and regulations
  • Oversee consultants and vendors in the delivery of cost effective services and operations
  • Be a catalyst of change management in climate action through supporting engagement of key stakeholders, both internal and external
What the role requires:
  • A university degree or a specialized college diploma in a related technical discipline, or in another relevant discipline such as environmental studies, , project management or purchasing
  • Five years of related experience
  • Knowledge of contract administration and project development
  • General understanding of design and construction standards
  • General knowledge of climate change and energy management
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Project leadership, organizational and time management skills
  • Proven excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Negotiation, motivation, facilitation, conflict resolution and team-building skills
  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software applications (Microsoft Project)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
