Families of Alberta for Conductive Education (FACE) is a registered Canadian charity that provides programming inspired by the principles of conductive education for children and young adults with neuromotor conditions such as cerebral palsy, strokes, acquired brain injury, and others, to help promote independence, skill development, and build confidence.
Position Overview:
We are seeking high-energy, enthusiastic individuals who love working with people of all abilities and are willing to learn what Conductive Education is. As an Adult Program Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in our holistic movement program by being one-on-one with a participant and following along in group. Staff are expected to follow guidance from our specialized therapists to deliver direct movement therapy and care, in order to support our participants in helping to learn essential skills for life. In addition to movement program, our adult program includes communication based activities, recreational activities, community outings, and music therapy. This position includes being a one-to-one support to our adult participants for the activities listed above as well as providing essential care including feeding, personal hygiene and behavioral support.
Responsibilities:
Adult Programming:
Work consistent shifts Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. Be flexible to work additional evening or Saturday hours to provide support to our children's program on a need be basis.
Support Adults:
Assist young adults with moderate to complex needs in completing designated therapy exercises and tasks as well as the rest of the activities during their day. The level of support will vary upon the needs of each individual, however we aim to promote independence whenever safely possible.
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with trained professionals to enhance your understanding of human development and supporting individuals with complex needs. Assisting in lifts/transfers with other team members and singing as a group is required.
Fun and Learning:
Create an enjoyable therapy and program experience while ensuring participants continue to progress toward their goals. Get to know your participants to help motivate them, sing along during program, and maintain an upbeat, engaging atmosphere.
Additional Duties:
Set up therapy equipment, assist with personal care (bathroom breaks, feeding), and maintain cleanliness before and after program times.
Qualifications and Skills:
Prior experience working with individuals who are nonverbal and have complex needs is preferred but not necessary as full training and guidance is given.
Must pass valid police and vulnerable persons check.
Candidates with valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
Candidates with Medication Administration Certification preferred.
Candidates with Positive Behavior Supports Certification preferred.
Candidates with Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification preferred.
Preference will be given to individuals who hold an international degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy (international credentials will be considered).
Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
