Job Description

Poplar River First Nation is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the 2025/2026 school year.

The Special Education Teacher will work in collaboration with the resource teacher, classroom teachers and educational assistants, education administrators, as well as multiple stakeholders that provide inclusive programming and resources for students who require additional assistance. They will oversee all aspects of educational service delivery, ensuring the program is providing appropriate resources. This will include implementation of the Special Education protocol, management of the IEP process, communication with parents, engagement with related service providers throughout the community, and comply with special education law and procedures at all times.

Our new school provides Nursery/Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes to a student population of approximately 400 students. We offer a competitive remuneration and benefit package and provide subsidized housing, modern newly furnished apartments, free Wi-Fi and telephone, and travel allowance.

Poplar River is a remote (fly-in) community on the east side of Lake Winnipeg. We have winter road access from December to March. We have regular flights throughout the week, except Saturdays. Please note: Candidate must be willing to relocate to our First Nation community.

Requirements: (Candidate must be legally authorized to work in Canada)

Bachelor Degree in Education*
Valid Teaching Certificate (Manitoba/Canadian Teaching Certificate)*
Special Education certification& experience*
Ability and knowledge of working with students with a range of disabilities*
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations*
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills*
Ability to solve problems with creative thinking*
Excellent organization & time management skills*
Proficient with technology*
