Special Education Instructors have a range of duties, depending on the specific needs of their students and the requirements of their educational institution. Generally, their primary responsibility is to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities or special needs, to help them succeed academically and socially. Some common duties of Special Education Instructors include: Developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with other teachers, parents, and support staff. Implementing specialized teaching strategies and accommodations to help students with disabilities access the curriculum and meet academic standards. Creating and modifying instructional materials to meet the needs of individual students, such as providing alternative reading materials, modifying assignments, or using specialized technology. Monitoring and tracking student progress, and providing ongoing assessment and evaluation to ensure that students are meeting their educational goals. Collaborating with other teachers, support staff, and parents to provide a coordinated and comprehensive approach to meeting the needs of students with disabilities. Providing support to students with disabilities in non-academic areas, such as social skills, emotional regulation, and behavioral management. Participating in professional development activities to stay up-to-date on best practices and trends in special education. Maintaining accurate records and documentation of student progress and communication with parents and other team members. The role of a Special Education Instructor is to provide individualized support and instruction to students with disabilities, to help them achieve their full potential and succeed in school and beyond.
