Job Description

Location: Markham, ON. Hybrid Schedule: 4 days in office, 1 day remote * Systems Architect for Grid Automation Technology team to enable digital transformation in the power grid, focused on signal digitization, protection & control infrastructure devices.

• Elicit and Capture detailed requirements from stakeholders
• Analyze complex requirements to design overall system architecture including hardware/software interface and embedded software
• Document software architecture design in various formats including block diagrams, UML
• Handle change management and impact analysis, assessing the effects of modifications on system architecture.
• Ensure requirements traceability through all phases of design, implementation, and testing.
• Maintain a strong alignment to the IEC61850 standards in system design.
• Use FMEA to identify and mitigate potential failure modes within the system.
• Address cybersecurity requirements and ensure systems meet all applicable security standards.
• Provide strategies for platforms and technology development, technical risks elimination and insertion, in order to make the platform reliable and the product competitive.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Product Managers on backlog definition and prioritization.
• Identify and communicate significant issues, risks and/or developments. Maintaining a focus on safety, reliability, performance, and security for embedded systems.
• Drive platform reuse strategies. Making data-driven decisions using trade-off criteria.
• Steer cross-functional councils to solve issues, drive decisions, gain consensus, and align on technical risk mitigation strategies.
• Communicate complex messages and negotiate internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influence peers to take action and negotiate with external partners and vendors.

Top Skills10-15+ years of experience in the below

• Strong Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD) skills in C/C++ (version 17 or higher)
• Experience designing embedded systems architecture
• Embedded Linux
• Knowledge of the transmission & distribution power-system domain and protection relays
• Designing modular, embedded systems based around Xilinx Ultrascale+ Designs
• 5+ years of experience with Micro-services software architectures
• Bachelor\'s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited college or university.

Additional Skills

• Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) development methodology.
• Experience with Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
• Knowledge on IEC6 1850, IEEE 1588 and/or networking protocols (IEC 62439-3, RSTP, VLANs...)
• Experience with system and integration testing methods.
