As the official pet registration provider for more than 250 jurisdictions, DocuPet is the largest and fastest growing pet registration platform in North America.
Our proprietary platform consolidates all pet information into a single place and provides the services for pet owners, community members and animal shelters to ensure pets can be reunited quickly if they become lost.
Beyond our platform, DocuPet offers specialized pet tags, an AI-powered pet tracker, lost pet alert system, and will soon be launching a first-of-its-kind pet parenting mobile app - all aimed to ensure every pet in North America is registered and that each has a safe and happy home.
Our work is very important. More than 6 million pets enter animal shelters every year. Just 10% of those animals are returned to their owners. Effective registration, pet identification, reunification tools, and animal shelter resources, all provided by DocuPet, is the solution that will measurably reduce shelter intakes while providing significant new funding for animal welfare organizations.
About the Role
The DocuPet solution includes an easy to use online licensing system, branded website and communications, real-time tracking and reporting, fulfillment and customer service, and value-added services for pet owners including our Lost Pet Alert System and Rewards Program.
We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager (E-Commerce) to lead the transformation of DocuPet's custom-built commerce platform.
In this role, you'll lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for evolving the entire commerce experience. You will oversee the architecture, modernization, and expansion of our E-Commerce ecosystem, which powers product browsing, sales, payments, inventory, fulfillment, and analytics across our platform. While our current ecosystem provides a strong foundation, we're gearing up for its next stage of evolution, and building new features and enhancements such as A/B testing, personalization and targeting, product reviews, product bundles, multi-payment support, split order fulfillment, advanced shipping, tax automation, and deeper transaction analytics. You'll regularly interact with Product Managers, Product Designers, QA Analysts, and other stakeholders in the business. This position will directly report to the Director of Software Engineering.
What You Will Be Doing
Lead technical strategy and Engineering roadmap for the E-Commerce platform, ensuring it scales to meet growing demand.
Architect, modernize, and iterate on critical commerce services including order lifecycle, payment orchestration, refunds, and reconciliation.
Design for experimentation - implement frameworks for A / B testing, and feature flags.
Guide the adoption of best-in-class commerce practices - including data-driven merchandising, SEO, and analytics integration.
Partner with Product and Product Design to develop user-centric experiences that improve conversion, retention, and revenue.
Champion user empathy-driven design thinking through collaboration with Product Design, and leading the implementation of responsive, high-quality UI components that reflect modern best practices in performance, accessibility, and usability.
Recruit, mentor, coach and level up full-stack software engineers, helping them develop into senior engineers and technical leaders.
Provide hands-on technical leadership, expertise, and technical skills to support and manage the E-Commerce team.
Collaborate on and engineer requirements writing technical specifications, visualizations (UML), and designs from product requirements documents.
Partner with Product Management to understand the vision, develop and guide technical strategy, lay out the roadmap, prioritize based on the roadmap, and regularly engage in activities, such as backlog refinement, epic and story grooming.
Empathize with and understand user needs and pain points to prioritize engineering work and deliver high quality solutions that deliver delightful user experiences.
Drive the execution of initiatives and projects, overseeing the entire software development lifecycle from planning to delivery, while maintaining high standards of quality and timely completion.
Drive innovation through constant R&D, identifying inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement in our software, and sharing new and promising industry trends.
Collaborate with other Engineering Managers and partner with the Director of Engineering to improve the Engineering culture, organization, and to uphold our mission & values.

7+ years of experience as a full-stack or specialized web engineer, ideally in E-Commerce or transaction-driven web platforms
3+ years of software engineering leadership experience as a Software Engineering Manager or similar role
3+ years of experience with reactive front-end, server-driven UI stacks, such as Symfony UX or similar (e.g. Laravel Livewire)
3+ years of experience with utility-first driven design systems (Figma + Flowbite + Tailwind preferred)
Proven experience building or modernizing E-Commerce systems - including checkout, order management, payments, inventory, or fulfillment.
Strong understanding of E-Commerce architecture patterns (e.g., event-driven order pipelines, headless commerce, etc.)

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effortlessly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
You're a hands-on Engineering Manager who embraces technical complexity and understands the entire stack
You're not afraid of code - you're still an engineer and an architect even if you don't do it all the time
You have a strong sense of ownership and a desire to solve problems rather than simply shipping solutions
