The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank\'s Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

GBME is searching for Software Engineers who are continuous learners and are eager to boost capabilities of capital markets products and analytics platforms.

The position requires concentrated use of sight and touch at a computer terminal on average 5- 6 hours/day. The incumbent must work under tight deadlines, conflicting priorities and changing project requirements. The incumbent must be able to react quickly to resolve problems and work overtime on occasion to meet deadlines and to implement systems with minimal impact to the end users. The incumbent may be required to travel a couple of times a year to remote locations to support our offices in New York, London, and Singapore.

In partnership with peer engineers, business partners, and the various GBME teams, you will:

  • Works closely with customers, Business Analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.
  • Involved in the full systems life cycle and is responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, and supporting applications software that is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Makes recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code
  • Responsibilities may also include participation in component and data architecture design, performance monitoring and product evaluation.
  • Provides guidance and training to less experienced analysts and programmers.
  • Provides front-line application support and coordination when application problems occur.
  • Participates in the evaluation of production logs and System Service Requests of high complexity and identifies actions to be taken to accomplish successful resolution to problem logs and deployment of new enhancements to the field.
  • Assists in Integrated System Test (IST) by supporting the test plan, test case validation and execution.
  • Provides the production support of global FI REPO trading platform
  • Liaisons with external vendors, product users, operations staff, technical support groups and other development teams in all phases of development project activities and production support activities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with Oracle & Sybase database and Unix/Linux platforms
  • 7 - 10 years\' experience with OOP Programming, Java, Enterprise Edition Java - J2EE
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, JavaScript, JQuery, Angular, Vue, HTML, CSS and Streaming architecture (Kafka, Elastic Search) as an asset
  • Experience with capital market trading platform, ION REPO platform, are strong asset
  • Proficient with Unix Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.), SQL queries, PL/SQL, and SQL Loader - or equivalent
  • Experience with enterprise integration tools and extract, transformation, and load (ETL) tools a very strong asset
  • Experience with DevOps, version control system such as Bitbucket, Jenkins
  • Strong technical, analytical, time management, training, and presentations skills
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize responsibilities and tasks to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse team
  • Must have excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
