Summary / Role Purpose

The Documentation Builds and System Integration team (DBSI) develops and maintains the ecosystem used to author, build, and deploy Ansys product documentation and related content. Our goal is to drive internal productivity and consistent end-user experience via best practices, standardization, and automation.

The Documentation Build and System Integration team is seeking an experienced R&D engineer to work in a hybrid DevOps/Development role. In this role, the R&D engineer will collaborate across teams of expert professionals to accomplish development objectives related to product documentation infrastructure, including the development of desktop and internet applications for viewing product documentation, maintenance and creation of documentation build pipelines, and the deployment of product documentation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all DevOps activities, including the implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and verification of product builds and packaging to provide quality production builds.
  • Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems
  • Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
  • Understands and employs best practices
  • Works closely with development to adjust builds and packaging to changing product requirements
  • Anticipates future needs and technology evolution and proposes and participates in implementation of new solutions
  • Works under the general supervision of a manager
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years\' experience or MS
  • Working experience with source code version tools (git) and automated continuous integration software, such as Azure DevOps or a similar environment.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with object-oriented design and at least one of the following: C# (preferred) and/or Java
  • Working experience within automation of build tasks (example: using tools such as Ant, Yaml, etc.)
  • Working experience with PowerShell, Python or other scripting languages
  • Working experience with XML, structured data development
  • Working experience with web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Working experience with XSLT and XPath
  • Familiarity with software documentation tools and authoring practices, e.g., API documentation, structured authoring, Docbook, DITA, Markdown, Oxygen XML, etc.
  • Working experience with search platforms, e.g., Lucene, Solr, Lunr, etc.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
