Job Description

About the Company

A leader in the development and manufacture of automated industrial equipment, AGT Robotics Inc. is recognized for its know-how and innovative approach. AGT Robotics Inc. is first and foremost the sum of passionate, creative and committed individuals, where the talents of each individual are put to work every day on major international projects.

About the Role

As Software Development Manager, you'll lead a talented team of software engineers contributing to AGT's autonomous robotic welding and automation solutions. Working closely with peers in robotics, vision, mechanical, and electrical teams, you'll provide technical leadership and strategic direction to ensure our products deliver maximum customer value.

You'll act as both coach and connector; developing people, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and aligning your team's work with product and organizational goals.

The person will report to the director of product development.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

Lead and support the software development team as its functional manager. Foster a collaborative, growth-minded culture focused on innovation, accountability, and well-being. Set clear objectives and development plans aligned with both individual and organizational goals. Ensure team members have the training, tools, and guidance needed to perform at their best. Conduct regular check-ins to review progress, recognize achievements, and identify growth opportunities.
Development Management

Oversee software development and release activities, ensuring high velocity, consistant quality, and strong organizational execution. Drive continuous improvement in development velocity and product quality through planning, structure, and disciplined execution. Proactively manage risks, providing data-driven options that keep deliveries on time and aligned with customer value. Prepare and present progress reports and strategic updates to directors and senior leadership. Promote a culture of open communication and collaboration across all development teams (robotics, vision, mechanical, and operations). Manage workload distribution to maintain focus, prioritization, and productivity. Collaborate with Product, Labs, and Technical leadership to balance commercial, technical, and customer priorities. Engage your team in shaping the product roadmap, connecting day-to-day work with long-term vision and outcomes. Anticipate delivery risks early and propose creative solutions or trade-offs that protect commitments without compromising customer value. Contribute actively to defining best practices, standards, and release management processes through cross-functional initiatives. Advocate for efficient, outcome-driven ways of working, promoting adaptability and sound judgment over rigid process.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A combination of other education and experience can be considered. 10+ years in product or software development management, ideally in a multidisciplinary, technology-driven environment. Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships in a product-driven environment, connecting software development to manufacturing, support, and customer outcomes. Strong technical background with proven experience leading software teams and delivering complex projects. You must know how to deliver a product from A to Z working with various teams and remote sites (canada-usa-europe). Proven track record of successfully delivering high-impact products or programs. Not only working on features but being able to deliver a product. Product and project planning is a must. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern development tools. Strong communication skills in English and French (written and spoken). Need to be bilingual to communicate with the team in Portugal and in the USA as well as worldwide clientele. Knowledge of robotics, automation, or manufacturing systems is an asset. Understanding of the structural steel or welding industry is a plus.
