Description :
Reporting to the Coordinator of Professional Services, the Social Worker provides prevention, screening and intervention with students who are experiencing or are likely to experience emotional, social, academic or family problems in order to enable them to achieve their goals through academic success, social and emotional adjustment and integration into college life.

More specifically, but not limited to, the Social Worker:
  • Carries out an evaluation of social functioning of the individual within the framework of the protective supervision of persons of full age or the mandate of protection (this activity is reserved exclusively for social workers);
  • Provides short-term counselling to a diverse set of clients dealing with various issues;
  • Sets up activities designed to ensure that students maximize their potential, particularly in their personal, family and social life;
  • Designs and takes part in screening, outreach, awareness and prevention programs focused on issues related to mental health and academic success of the student population;
  • Intervenes in order to defuse crises or emergency situations and suggest avenues for resolving them;
  • Develops and maintains contacts with representatives of the health and social services network and other partner organizations in their own area of competence;
  • Collaborates with staff and faculty, as well as service providers or other organizations as needed;
  • Attends Counselling team meetings and participates in case studies within multidisciplinary teams;
  • Prepares and updates records adhering to the standards of their profession and the College\xe2\x80\x99s by-laws.

Other related duties which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Schedule: Part-Time, 80%. Schedule, t.b.d.
Contract: A.S.A.P. until June 30, 2023, with the possibility of an extension

Requirements :
Qualifications:
  • Membership in the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux du Qu\xc3\xa9bec.

Conditions related to the specific position:
  • Bachelors of Social Work;
  • Ability to set short term objectives and use a solution focused approach;
  • Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills;
  • Recent and demonstrated experience in providing mental health support services;
  • Knowledge of the secondary and post-secondary educational systems, especially in Quebec;
  • Excellent English oral and written skills (to be tested);
  • Strong French oral and written skills (to be tested);
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (to be tested);
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Psychotherapy permit (an asset);
  • Knowledge of Canva (an asset).
