Job Description


Staffmax is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Manager of Social Work to identify and address the root causes of chronic absenteeism among students in School Division 1. Working closely with the Co-Manager of Operations, the Manager of Social Work will foster a supportive and inclusive school environment to promote consistent attendance and academic success.Key Responsibilities:Develop and Implement Outreach Programs:

  • Manage all aspects of the case management process for students in the outreach program, including selection, intake, assessment, goal planning, action, transition, and follow-up.
  • Support vulnerable student populations, including those facing mental health, addiction, and poverty issues.
Student and Family Engagement:
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and guardians to understand and address the causes of absenteeism.
  • Conduct home visits as needed to engage and build rapport with students and their families.
  • Monitor behavior, intervene in crisis situations, and provide emotional support and advocacy.
  • Encourage self-discipline, self-respect, and self-determination in students.
Collaboration with Stakeholders:
  • Coordinate support services and resources with school staff, community organizations, and the Winnipeg School Division.
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations, social service agencies, and municipal government, and advocate for students.
  • Manage referrals and coordinate with relevant community supports involved in the student\'s care plan.
  • Develop relationships with community members to enhance awareness of the organization\'s programs and services.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Monitor attendance data, identify trends, and develop strategies to improve attendance rates.
  • Develop goal plans with students and families, scheduling regular meetings to review progress and plan further.
  • Maintain accurate case files for each student, including documentation and detailed case notes.
  • Ensure confidentiality in accordance with Operating Policy and applicable legislation.
  • Utilize a computer management system for participant documentation and statistical reporting.
Mentorship and Support:
  • Provide one-on-one mentorship and support to students, helping them set and achieve academic and personal goals.
  • Serve as a resource for the outreach team to assess cases and develop engagement and support strategies for students and families.
Advocacy and Resource Allocation:
  • Advocate for students\' needs within the school and the broader community, ensuring access to necessary resources and support.
  • Apply evidence-informed practices and cultural competencies in service delivery.
  • Perform other position-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Social Work (Master\'s degree preferred).
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate and medical clearance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community outreach, education, or social services, focusing on youth.
  • Strong understanding of the social service system, including housing, income support programs, health services, addiction counseling, and employment.
  • Valid Manitoba Class G Driver\'s License and a satisfactory Driver\'s abstract.

Working Conditions:
  • Average of 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.
