The Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration is a not-for-profit, charitable, anti-violence and social support agency promoting family safety and wellbeing within London's diverse communities.

Our services at MRCSSI are grounded in our Culturally Integrative Model. This approach works to address the unique role played by one's context of migration, integration, culture and value/belief systems. Through integrating best practices and embedding them within collectivist cultural norms, MRCSSI develops evidence-based programs to meet the needs of families and individuals from collectivist cultures, those struggling with integration and those migrating from conflict zones. Services and responses are shaped through a family-focused, strengths-based and collaborative approach.

Functional Area



Social work, short-term intervention, assessment, counselling and advocacy, group program facilitator, project coordination, and assist in promoting MRCSSI mission.

Job Duties and Areas of Responsibility



Working in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary team, both internally and a multidisciplinary team of healthcare, social services and family violence professionals externally, the Social Worker will participate in the efficient delivery of services, projects and programs and in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of The Muslim Resource Centre for Support and Integration (MRCSSI) and the application of the culturally integrative family safety response approach.

The Social Worker is expected to provide intervention services that are appropriate to meet the needs of client families and individuals, with a focus on violence prevention, and using a case management approach and participation in the delivery and/or coordination of relevant projects. These services may include needs assessment, crisis intervention, social support, short term intervention, counselling, referrals to community services, programs and supports, advocacy, system navigation, and group programs to families, men, women, youth and children.

In this role the Social Worker is expected to work collaboratively with a range of external stakeholders and contribute to the continuous development of MRCSSI's capacity to develop and deliver direct services to individuals and families to the highest professional standard. The Social Worker may be called to do presentations within the community as it regards our services and participate in evidence-based programs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities



Provide short-term support to families, individuals and youth; provide support to address pre-migration stressors and struggles to integrate; provide training to parents and children through implementation of group programs.

Identify client needs and develop a case management plan; assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions in consultation with supervisor, which are timely and in the best interest of the client; carry out client risk and protective factor assessment using appropriate tools.

Provide counselling to address pre-migration stressors and struggles to integrate.

Meet with clients in the office or in the clients' home as appropriate; attend case conferences in the community; provide information to groups of individuals for public education purposes or to promote agency services.

Ensure that clients are appropriately engaged with other services, programs and activities,

When appropriate apply the Four Aspects Screening Tool (FAST) for assessment and Coordinated Organization Response Team (CORT) to guide collaborative case planning and service delivery with community service providers.

Provide information to groups of individuals for pubic education purposes or to promote agency services.

Provide training to parents and children through implementation of group programs.

Complete required documentation in a timely manner; collect and input client information into the organization's data system as required; consult with designated supervisor on a regular basis.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor or management. This means you may have to occasionally take on tasks outside the normal scope of your job.

Qualifications



Education: Master's degree in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field.

Certification as a Social Worker, or university degree in the social sciences.

Professional designation: Membership or eligible for membership in Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Other Requirements: Recent Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check, Child Welfare Record Check (completed within six months of contract start).

Preferred: Ability to speak Arabic and knowledge of immigrant and refugee communities in London.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Professional and personal commitment to practice based on values and ethics and to exercise ethical decision-making; ability to manage complex and sensitive issues.

Knowledge of family development, functioning and dynamics, violence prevention, immigration and settlement experience.

Ability to provide assessment, support and case coordination to individuals, youth and children, couples and families; ability to problem-solve situations with families and respond to crisis; ability to facilitate group programs.

Knowledge and demonstrated experience in anti-oppressive practice skills.

Ability to be culturally sensitive and communicate appropriately with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences; demonstrated experience in the delivery of culturally appropriate and sensitive services.

Strong written and verbal communication and comprehension skills in English; ability to communicate effectively, speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough but concise manner using appropriate and effective communication tools; ability to speak, read, write in a language other than English, especially Arabic, is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal, time management, problem solving and organizational skills; ability to work to work independently, as well as within a team environment.

Proficiency in and familiarity with Microsoft Office including word processing and spreadsheets, E-mail and Internet navigation is an asset.
