Job Summary
This is an advanced, clinical practice and leadership position providing psychotherapy and other advanced clinical interventions to the clients of the Mental Health & Addictions Program in the Center City and surrounding areas. This position works in an interdisciplinary team which provides individual and group therapy for a wide array of mental health issues in a Stepped Care Service Delivery Model. The Social Worker provides therapy using evidence based theoretical frameworks and professional analysis of complex situations that have been attained in a Clinical/integrated MSW Program with a clinical placement focusing on Individual/Group/ Family Psychotherapy. The Social worker is expected to be proficient in a variety of clinical modalities including but not limited to DBT, Cognitive Behavioral, Post Modern and brief therapeutic approaches. The Social Worker may provide consultation to other areas of the mental health program. This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment in
determining appropriate intervention strategies and in developing, implementing and evaluating treatment goals for individuals and groups. Group work may also be a requirement. The Social Worker III will be responsible to provide Social Work students with field instruction and offer other clinical education experience to students within Eastern Health. Other duties may include education, advocacy and research.

This position reports to the Program Manager for the Center City, Mental Health & Addictions Team and maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

The Social Worker may be required to do occasional shifts through DoorWays and to do TAO (Therapist Assisted Online). The Social Worker may be required to adjust hours on occasion to facilitate evening counselling sessions outside of regular hours of work.

Job Demands

Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.
Constantly sits to work on the computer or to drive to meetings.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems.
Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff\'s safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening.
Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master\'s degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working as a Social Worker in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Experience with individual, family, couples and group therapy is required.
Experience with brief therapy modalities is an asset.
ASIST training is an asset.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of the Recovery Model.
Knowledge of mental health, addictions, concurrent disorders, trauma and associated treatment.
Knowledge of community resources in the areas of both mental health and addictions.
Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Exhibited strong program development and evaluation skills.
Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.
Exhibited strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to write proposals, develop and evaluate clinical projects.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and patient needs.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
