Job Summary
This is a specialized clinical Social Work position in the Community Mental Health Division of the CAST: Concurrent, Addictions, and Specialized Treatment Services which provides intensive individual, couple, family and group therapy in the areas including concurrent disorders, inpatient addictions treatment aftercare and specialized concurrent treatment groups. This highly autonomous position provides assessment and treatment at an advanced level to restore and/or enhance the psychosocial functioning of individuals, couples, families and communities experiencing a wide range of complex issues. Clinicians are also expected to work with diverse populations. The Social Worker III exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment with work reviewed through clinical consultation as needed. This position maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and professional practice issues.
The Social Worker III (SWIII) independently screens referrals, conducts in-depth comprehensive assessments of addictions and mental health needs of clients through clinical interviews and identifies high risk factors for therapeutic intervention and follow up; researches, analyses and maintains a broad knowledge of complex issues including, but not limited to, alcohol, drug and gambling addiction, suicide intervention, mild to moderate mental illnesses (i.e., schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety and depression, ADHD, PTSD, eating disorders), domestic violence, emotional, physical and sexual abuse (both survivors and offenders), trauma, intimacy and sexuality, anger, interpersonal conflict, and stress management. The SWIII independently provides specialized, advanced and intensive therapeutic counseling to restore and enhance the biopsychosocial/spiritual functioning of clients, and researches, analyses and applies empirically based theoretical frameworks to address unique client needs. These include a wide range of approaches including, but not limited to, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral, Stages of Change, Communication, Attachment, Solution-Focused, Narrative, and Emotionally-Focused Therapies. The successful applicant will be required to supervise social work students. This position is also responsible for Clinical and Team Leadership. Duties will include, but not be limited to, assisting the Program Manager with program development and service process improvements. In addition, coordination of clinical consultation, peer reviews and ensuring service offerings adhere to best practices for concurrent disorders. Other duties as required.

Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.

Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems.
Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff\'s safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening.
Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master\'s degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working as a Social Worker in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Experience with individual, family and group therapy is required.
Experience in brief therapy modalities is an asset.
ASIST training is an asset.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of the Recovery Model.
Knowledge of treatment of alcohol, drugs and/or gambling.
Knowledge of mental health, addictions, concurrent disorders, trauma and associated treatment.
Knowledge of community resources in the areas of mental health and addictions.
Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students
Exhibited strong program development and evaluation skills.
Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.
Exhibited strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
