The Stollery Emergency Department (ED) Mental Health (MH) Team is part of the Children, Youth, and Families, Addiction and Mental Health (CYF AMH) portfolio and is a specialty service within the Stollery ED. The Stollery ED MH Social Worker reports to the Care Manager of Urgent Services in CYF AMH. The MH Social Worker applies discipline specific skills to provide care and support to children, youth, and their families who present to the Stollery ED with mental health as their primary concern. The care provided by the ED MH Social Worker must be concurrent-capable, family and patient-centered, trauma informed, and done in collaboration with the ED physician, Psychiatrist, and other care providers. The MH Social Worker demonstrates advanced skills in mental health risk assessment, risk management, non-violent crisis intervention, therapeutic engagement, safety planning, collaboration, and provides psycho social interventions as needed. The MH Social Worker requires in-depth knowledge of community resources for an effective and safe discharge from the ED. The MH Social Worker works closely with the Crisis Team, Urgent Clinic, other child and adolescent mental health care providers, and community partners such as Children's Services, Family Supports to Children with Disabilities, Police, and School Personnel. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, risk screening, counselling and discharge planning.
