About Covenant House


Since 1997, Covenant House Vancouver has provided relentless support for youth experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing, homelessness. We provide support to young people age 16 to 24 who have experienced a wide range of early life and ongoing, complex trauma including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Our purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and provide a safe and supportive environment for all youth in need.

The Impact a Social Worker with our Foundations Program can make:


The primary role of the Social Worker at Covenant House is in exploring short term and long-term goals and supporting the youth to move towards these. The social work teamwork across all programs at Covenant House to support youth in different stages of their journey. You will work alongside the Clinical Counselling Team, Spiritual Care Practitioner and Anti Human Trafficking Coordinator as part of a multidisciplinary team that also includes, Youth Workers, Team Leaders and, Program Managers. Together, you will strategize interventions and supports for youth who access CHV services.

How you will contribute:


  • Complete bio-physio-social-spiritual assessments with clients.
  • Facilitate case planning meetings as needed with youth, their youth workers and any other supportive parties
  • Liaise with other community service providers and program services staff for the purpose of providing social work services to youth in the stabilization program
  • Ensure consultation and collaboration among teams on behalf of the clients
  • Coordinate community case conferences and internal case review meetings as necessary
  • Attend inter-agency and program related meetings as required
  • Collaborate and advocate with front line staff to ensure ethical and clinically sound practice pertaining to youth
  • Facilitate reflective practice discussions and workshops depending on areas of interest, need and expertise, particularly in regards to work with youth facing Substance Use Disorder and/or misuse.
  • Oversee and/or supervise practicum of students in the department as assigned
  • Liaise between programs and health teams for youth accessing CHV stabilization beds
  • Represent CHV in the community and work at building relationships community partners
  • Liaise with in-house service providers and community service providers
  • Attend community meetings and work on joint service projects as required
  • Other duties as required

Who we are looking for?


Education and Experience:
  • Minimum BSW
  • Must be registered as a Social Worker (British Columbia) with the BCCSW (or the province you currently reside in).
  • Experience with direct service to youth population including crisis intervention and supervision experience is an asset

Skills & Abilities:
  • Sound knowledge of Substance Use Disorders, substance misuse and concurrent disorders and related best practices
  • Sound understanding and experience of working with trauma and within a Trauma-Informed Practice framework
  • Sound knowledge of community resources pertaining to homeless use, substance use, harm reduction and trauma
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Sound knowledge of assessment and support of youth experiencing substance misuse and/or Substance Use Disorder
  • Demonstrated training and experience supporting and providing social work services to individuals with substance misuse concerns, particularly youth.
  • Applicants should also exhibit experience in and be able to provide examples of:
  • Crisis intervention
  • Supporting youth with trauma and concurrent disorders
  • Clinical decision-making with high-risk clients
  • Rapport building with homeless or at-risk youth
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Proven case management skills
  • Case coordination with street involved youth
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • Excellent understanding of community service programming

The starting salary range for this position is $53,198.60 \xe2\x80\x93 $66,502.80 annually
