Posting Close: August 2, 2024The Social Worker, Employment and Settlement Services will be required to work full time from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Employment and Settlement Services, the Social Worker, Employment and Settlement Services will provide specialized support to individuals with mental health issues as they seek competitive employment. The Social Worker, Employment and Settlement Services will be a valuable addition as we transition to assisting the most barriered individuals with Dixon Hall employment program. They will be working in close collaboration with other members of the Dixon Hall\xe2\x80\x99s Employment and Settlement team.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of individuals/clients with mental health issues and other barriers, supporting them in securing competitive employment across various sectors.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients\' needs, strengths, and barriers to employment and settlement.
  • Develop individualized service plans outlining goals and steps for achieving employment and settlement.
  • Coordinate and monitor services and resources needed by clients.
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up to ensure clients are progressing toward their goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date case notes, progress reports and client files.
  • Support and assist participants in developing and implementing personalized employment action plans.
  • Connect clients with job training programs, educational opportunities, and apprenticeship placements.
  • Provide clients with referrals and access to employment, training, settlement services, volunteering, and community resources.
  • Provide information and referrals to housing, healthcare, education, and other community resources.
  • Assist clients with navigating legal and bureaucratic processes, such as obtaining work permits, social insurance numbers, and accessing social services.
  • Offer orientation sessions on cultural adaptation, rights and responsibilities, and community integration.
  • Offer emotional support and counselling to help clients cope with the stress and challenges of settlement and employment.
  • Facilitate support groups and workshops to build clients\' skills and confidence.
  • Develop strategies to increase employment opportunities for clients.
  • Meet annual and other targets as identified and set out by program funders.
  • Work in collaboration with the Employment and Settlement team as well as teams at Housing, Shelter and Respite, and other departments at Dixon Hall.
  • Establish partnerships and work in close collaboration with service providers and community agencies.
  • Advocate for clients\' rights and needs within various systems (e.g., legal, educational, healthcare).
  • Work to remove barriers and address systemic issues affecting clients\' ability to settle and find employment.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, agencies, and community organizations to coordinate services and resources.
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts in the community, including employers, service providers, and government agencies.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of programs and services to ensure they meet clients\' needs effectively.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback and suggestions based on clients\' experiences.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the cultural backgrounds and experiences of clients.
  • Incorporate culturally appropriate practices into service delivery.
  • Maintain employer/participant documentation and statistical data as required.
  • Attend weekly/ bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Social Work or a related field; Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred.
  • Registered Social Worker (RSW) designation.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working in a vocational/employment initiative.
  • Demonstrated experience with case management, employer outreach, and job development
  • Understanding and experience working with persons with mental health issues and individuals with multiple barriers.
  • Certification and experience in social work focusing on mental health (required).
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload and develop tailored employment plans.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and employment services.
  • Experience in job development and employer engagement is an asset.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of community agencies and their relevant programs and services.
  • Self-directed and independent; ability to work effectively as an interdisciplinary team and in collaboration with other community professionals.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing client situations and needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work with a wide range of personality types; sensitivity to diversity
  • Excellent communication and outreach skills.
  • Applied computer skills (Microsoft Office, Client Information Systems, Web browsing).
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a \xe2\x80\x98Clear\xe2\x80\x99 or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
