Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of moderate complexity. Assists patients and their families with practical problems and personal concerns and consults with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patients' situation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Bachelor of Social Work degree (B.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work, however a Master's degree (M.S.W.) is preferred. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

Currently, this bachelors or masters degree of social work position is located at the Gorge Road Hospital on an acute care unit with a client service population that is General Medical and Alternate Level of Care. Social Workers work in team-based care and are involved in complex discharge planning with clients and their families to be able to return to their home community or to alternate level of care. Social workers offer short-term supportive counselling related to grief, loss, adjustment to diagnoses, change of health status, advance care planning and support referrals and applications to/and for a variety of government and community resources. Previous experience working in acute care will be an asset. All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all allegations of adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families regarding child protection issues. Social Workers must be registered with the British Columbia College of Social Workers to practice in acute care hospitals
