Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of moderate complexity. Assists patients and their families with practical problems and personal concerns and consults with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patients' situation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Bachelor of Social Work degree (B.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work, however a Master's degree (M.S.W.) is preferred. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

This temporary Bachelors or Masters Degree of Social Work position is currently located on the Rehabilitation/Activation and Surgical/Bone Health units at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The Social Worker works in team-based care - providing social work services in planning complex discharges with clients and their families to return to their home community or alternate level of care. Previous acute care experience will be an asset. Clients admitted to this unit have sustained an orthopaedic trauma or surgical intervention which may impact their lives . Services include short -term counselling related to grief and loss, adjustment to diagnosis and change of health status, support to accessing resources such as housing applications, financial applications and/or other resources. Advance care planning regarding financial management, health care decisions and initial goals of care is part of the social work role. All social workers in hospital are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social Workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters pertaining to child protection.
