Position Overview



The objective of the Social Development Coordinator is to develop and evaluate social policies, and administer the social assistance program and services for Annapolis Valley First Nation

Duties and Responsibilities



Determine eligibility of applicants and clients for the social assistance program and supports in accordance with the eligibility criteria outlined in the Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) social manual

Determine client's eligibility and approve requests for special need and/or emergency assistance

Review and approve continued eligibility by examining clients' requests for continued assistance

Administer on behalf of the client, bill payments for rent, utility, fuel, etc.

Conduct client interviews to assess need and determine eligibility to programs and services, assisting clients, as needed to complete application forms

Explain client's obligations and entitlements and the right to appeal discontinued or reduced benefits

Establish and maintain, with the client, all necessary documents for social assistance, verifying the accuracy of information and conducts home visits, as required

Calculate and administer social assistance payments on a bi-weekly basis, within the timeline (posted 3 business days before payments are due) and the available budget to ensure clients' needs are being met and eligibility status remains valid

Liaise with various community and government agencies and keep updated on available resources

Assist clients in seeking all other sources of income such as Employment Insurance, Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Canada Pension, etc.

Refer clients to other services, as required

Develop plans to assist clients towards greater financial management independence such as:

Providing workshops and or counselling to assist clients in budgeting

Discussing and proposing training and employment options

Establish repayment agreements with clients, as needed

Initiate benefits on computer file and maintain the file to ensure all records are up to date and accurate

Complete and submit yearly reports to the AVFN Senior Financial Officer, for submission to ISC, as required

Ensure all payments are made to appropriate vendors before reports can be closed off and submitted

Track expenditures to remain within designated budgets

Responsible for social development reports as required

Submit proposals for additional funding through other sources, as needed

Monitor caseloads through systems generated reports, prepared reports and statistics

Participate on committees and special projects, as needed

Ensures Privacy Laws and Confidentiality policies are followed

Adhere to all Annapolis Valley First Nation (AVFN) Policies and Procedures, as required

Administer payments to social clients per Band policy

Produce monthly general ledgers

Attend various meetings and participate on committees as required.

Other duties, training and activities related to the position, as required

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $43,500.00-$45,000.00 per year
