Trecan has an immediate opening for a Snowmelter Technician. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and is willing and capable to travel to the United States and various provinces within Canada during our busy season.

Trecan Combustion Ltd. is a Canadian-owned company. For over 35 years, we have been designing and manufacturing Snowmelters. We export our product around the world to airports, cities, snow contractors and other customers.

Trecan's technical history is steeped in combustion technology and thermal efficiency. Our Snowmelters are the most energy efficient available, due to our submerged combustion system. This method transfers heat energy from the combustion process to water and snow in the melting tank through direct contact.

Our products also include IT-enabled remote monitoring capability. For these reasons and more, our Snowmelters are considered "the industry standard".

THE ROLE

Trecan has an immediate opening for a Snowmelter Technician. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and is willing and capable to travel to the United States and various provinces within Canada during our busy season.

Assembly:

• Read and interpret hydraulic and fuel drawings.
• Read and interpret assembly work instructions and parts lists.
• Follow the supplied instructions and use effective work practices in properly assembling all components and fitting.
• Effectively use subassemblies, tools, and materials when completing assigned work.
• Check work after completion to ensure proper and safe function is possible.
• Effectively and efficiently complete mechanical and electrical assembly of electrical panels.
• Test assembled equipment, following procedures in the testing checklist.
• Using electrical, hydraulic and fuel drawings in order to troubleshoot problems in testing the equipment.

Service:

• Commission and start-up Trecan-manufactured equipment.
• Provide on-site training to the customer's operators on the equipment supplied.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment at customer's site.
• Read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Provide preventive maintenance service.
• Properly load software/programs (ex. SCADAPacks, OIs, modems, Sauer-Danfoss controllers) into the equipment when applicable.
• Communicate/confirm with customer all intended work plans then follow-up with results reporting once work is complete.
• Provide consulting service for existing products and promote future equipment sales.
• Build positive relationships with customers at every level of their organization.
• Produce timely and detailed service reports or ticket updates to internal departments.
• Must be willing to travel 25% of the time.

Testing:

• Test the operation of new Snowmelters.
• Testing and evaluating new Snowmelter software.
• Burner emissions testing.
• Equipment sound level measurements.
• Snow melting tests.
• Collection of water samples from Snowmelter discharge.
• Testing of potentially defective components.
• Product reliability testing.
• Perform testing for Research and Development (R&D) projects.
• Prepare detailed test reports to document testing activities.
• Review Operator's Manuals for accuracy by comparing with machines.
• Review Troubleshooting procedures and help with their preparation.
• Assist with preparation of training materials.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Along with being a subject matter expert of your trade, you must be willing to learn new skills specific to the Snowmelter industry.
• You must enjoy travelling. This position will require high volume travel during our peak season performing service work to our clients both nationally and internationally. Most of our international travel will be to our clients in the United States.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills as you are an Ambassador of Trecan when travelling to perform service work.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly work instructions and parts lists.
• Willing to learn to test assembled equipment as well as follow all testing procedures. This could include using electrical, hydraulic and fuel drawings to troubleshoot problems in the equipment.
• Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Willing to ask questions to understand requirements fully before starting work.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to make changes to electrical wiring.
• Ability to disassemble components, replace parts and reassemble.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and good trouble shooting abilities.
• Ability to read electrical schematics is considered an asset.

When not travelling, this position works Monday to Friday from 7am to 3:30pm. Each day, there are two paid 15- minute breaks and one 30-minute unpaid lunch.

•This position is a unionized position and covered by the collective agreement between Trecan and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 56 (the "Union"). Preference will be given to internal applicants with the necessary qualifications to perform the duties of the position. The successful applicant will be required to be a member in good standing or become a member of the Union.•

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
