The Snow Services division of Coastal Mountain Excavations works with public entities such as the Resort Municipality of Whistler and private clients such as condominium associations, businesses and individual homeowners to remove snow from streets, parking lots, driveways, and similar areas.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Snow Removal Equipment Operator will respond promptly to snow events, clearing assigned routes using a plow, blade, or bucket when operating loaders, backhoes, or skid steers, and applying sand, sand/salt mix, or salt for ice control when operating a truck with a fitted plow. They follow personal and company safety protocols, including proper use of protective equipment. Strong communication is required for effective teamwork, and all work must meet organizational, municipal, and contractual requirements while maintaining the highest safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Snow Removal Equipment Operator is responsible for the following:
Respond in a timely manner (within 30 minutes in Whistler, 45 minutes in Pemberton, or 60 minutes in Squamish) when called to plow snow on event days
Perform routine equipment maintenance check-in procedures at the start and check-out procedures at end of shift including changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing - all maintenance other than that performed at the start and end of a shift needs to be authorized by the Chief Mechanic
Keep equipment clean inside and out
Operate snow removal equipment to remove ice and snow from assigned areas, which may require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays.
Ensure streets, parking lots, driveways and similar areas under the responsibility of this position are adequately and safely sanded when required.
Always drive in a safe and legal manner; be alert to hazards and follow safe work procedures
Notify Supervisor immediately of all incidents regardless of severity and call for backup if the collision involves multiple parties, multiple passengers, or damage is of a high dollar value.
Log hours and work activity in LMN Time and complete daily paperwork in an orderly, logical and legible fashion including all pertinent information
Keep Supervisor informed of status regularly
Ensure customer satisfaction by displaying courteous, friendly manner
Always maintain personal safety gear (hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel toed boots)
Always maintain personal foulcold weather gear (rain gear, rubber boots, warm clothing)
Sand Truck (specific)
+ Open properties on route on snow days
+ Drive through properties on route and notes to Supervisor: roof sheds, cars that have moved, damage, snow dumps that are full, snow dumps that may be in a poor location or blocked catch basins that may cause flooding, quality plow work (good and bad), and anything else that is deemed relevant
+ Open routes with plow, spread sand, sand/salt mix, or salt on roadways to remove ice and snow from assigned areas, which may require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Snow Removal Equipment Operator will demonstrate the following abilities in their daily work:

Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to requests from others as well as the ability to explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others within established policies, procedures, and standards
Ability to complete forms and upload photos using smartphone and tablet

Physical stamina and perseverance to brave inclement weather daily
Physically demanding:
Frequently rotating (right/left) - check/see mirrors, blind spots, when backing equipment up, to see wings on plow.
Dexterity; eye/hand and eye/hand/foot coordination
Repetitive movements - body rotation, feet and hand controls
Gripping and reaching
Sitting for long periods of time.
Climbing - stairs/ladders; getting in and out of equipment.
Customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively with the general public
Interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with other Snow Services and Coastal Mountain Excavations employees
Other skills specific to the position
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Class 5 BC Drivers' Licence
Grade 12 diploma
Prior work experiences an asset, but we welcome all those with a willingness to work hard and learn; on-the-job training is provided
Must be available from November 15 through March 31
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$28.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience and education
Vacation pay (calculated at 4% of total wages earned)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Scheduled workdays for the winter (ex. 7 on, 4 off, 7 on, 3 off)
Minimum 80 hour guaranteed wage for 10-week winter schedule, plus overtime as you work
