Detailed Description:

Entry level during which an employee receives both functional and organizational training under close supervision. Incumbents carry out assignments within well-defined practices, procedures and policies. Works independently on details of assignments, and has limited decision-making authority; most decisions are made or guided by the immediate supervisor. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the department\'s/division\'s goals. Works under close Supervision and requires direction on how assignments are to be executed; begins to put forward ideas on how work assignments are completed. Establishes cooperative relationships to work effectively with colleagues; supports others and participates as a team member, and takes responsibility for own work commitments. Interacts directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in routine exchanges of information; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, would be monitored.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• As a SMT Process Engineer, set up and qualify new products on SMT Line.
• Provides technical support on SMT process problems.
• Helps determine inspection criteria for SMT solder joints.
• Evaluates new SMT related equipment, cooridinates software and hardware upgrades, sets equipment specifications and qualification tests and recommends new equipment.
• Acts as the focal point for all product-related SMT technical issues.
• Interacts with customers to resolve problems and increase the quality and yield of the product.
• Will also provide feedback to other engineering groups and possibly the customer to ensure smooth production of products.
• Solves assigned technical product, process, component, or material problems affecting efficient manufacture of products within the SMT area or under direction/guidance of more experienced engineers.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

• Engineering Foundation Competencies
• Knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards.
• Knowledge and understanding of systems and printed circuit board manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Knowledge of industry and quality standards.
• Knowledge of testing software, processes and methodologies and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of IT platforms, database design and programming languages.
• Knowledge of some or all of the following: UNIX, NT, database management system.
• Good organization skills.
• Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
• Knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
• Knowledge of industry and quality standards for incoming materials.
• Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
• Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.

Physical Demands:

• Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
• Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
• Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

Typical Experience:

• At least two years of direct SMT process and manufacturing experience.

Typical Education:

• Bachelor\'s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
